Spraying

So a little back story: Lera is about 4 y/o, neutered male cat. He is, what I call a former tom-cat in that he was neutered well into sexual maturity and had for most of his life lived on the streets being a gangsta street thug kitty. Then I got him.

So, it's been great for two years, no spraying, no nothing and then I got a new chest of drawers yesterday. I put in my room and he seemed okay with it. As I was going to bed I was shutting him in (I have dogs and keep them separated at night) and he wanted to go to out and I didn't let him and then just happy as can be started spraying on my drawers! I was dumb founded. Couldn't believe it. I blotted it up but didn't use any enzymatic cleaner b/c I was out and it was about 11pm. So, today I come home from work (with cleaner) and he's crying in my room and I didn't let him out right away (let the dogs get settled) and I go in my room after about 10 minutes and sure enough the turd has sprayed on the drawers AGAIN! (this is right by the door)

This time I used the enzymatic cleaner. Here's the thing: It's spraying, not just inappropriate urination. I SAW the little butthead doing it. It's not a UTI. I need suggestions on how to deal with this because urinating in the house (and it can't be fixed or they can't be reliable) is the ONE thing I cannot deal with. I want to attack this on all fronts.

I'm going to get some feliway spray to spray on the area and I was thinking about feeding him in that area. Any other suggestions? I'll put a diaper on him if you tell me to, so suggest away.

There's also the diffuser that goes into your wall outlet

The below is taken from the Feliway FAQ page on Farnampet.com

Quote:
How long does the product need to be used until noticeable positive effects are observed?
Ideally, the product should be used for at least one month. Results have been noticed as early as one week. The degree of results will also depend on the condition or behavioral disorder of your pet, some will respond faster and better than others.

If someone is currently using the Comfort Zone Spray with Feliway, should they discontinue the spray and use only the Comfort Zone Diffuser with Feliway?
That depends on the type of behavior they are trying to address. For the treatment of scratching behavior and for calming cats in their carriers, the spray is the preferred product and use thereof should be continued. For use in multi-cat households, to end urine marking or for the initial treatment of stress related behaviors, Comfort Zone Diffuser with Feliway is the preferred product.

Should both Comfort Zone with Feliway products be used for better results?
Both the spray and the diffuser may be used in combination, but this largely depends on the behavioral problem that has been identified. In case of severe marking problems in multi-cat households, the spray may add a direct inhibiting effect and therefore stop or reduce the unwanted behavior in a shorter period of time in addition to the diffuser.
There are more good tips on the page
