Higher-earning families part of St. Albert's appeal

This family actually thinks that people with high incomes do not commit crimes and could never be involved with drugs. They are opposing Habitat for Humanity.

..."This development will be hard for the families moving in. Being low income will make it difficult for children to be accepted in local schools. Like it or not, the children of St. Albert are high-standard children and have no place for low-income classmates. When we first moved to St. Albert our teen had a hard time fitting in because of money and it was hard on him. Now he is good, but it did not go away with just a loving hug — his status was accomplished once his friends saw our house and other possessions. It sounds cruel but that is how it is; ask your children, they will tell you."

So glad I don't live in St. Albert.

I really enjoyed reading people's responses. I wonder how much longer this family is going to be able to live in St. Alberts now?

Me too Tricia.
I am astounded someone would write a letter to the editor of a newspaper like that, knowing it would be printed. I mean, are they really that freaking stupid?
I see that more than one poster in the comments section posted the name of the business these people own, the posts were removed but they were seen first, by now all of St Albert knows which business to boycott.

The kids so-called friends are probably fakely sympathetic, because after all those kids still come from a family with plenty of money.

I'm willing to bet this family is being quietly congratulated for their opinions but a lot of people from that school. Perhaps outside of that insulated community, there may be problems for them, but I seriously doubt many people who are in that same social circle see any problem with what these people said.

I agree. I have been around people in a community with "our community is above all" attitude. It is disgusting.

True enough. I wonder what those kids are going to do, if they ever have to function outside that milieu -- going to be a rude shock for them to meet the real world.
