There are cats who have leukemia since birth who live to be old and die of something totally unrelated to the leukemia and there are some who catch it as an adult and are dead 6 months to a year later. It is a very unpredictable disease and when they catch it doesn't seem to effect how bad it is, it depends on how well the cat's immune system fights it. I know with Attitude and Nuts their immune systems almost fought it off and they were exposed in-utero, they have very faint positives.

The vet is right about her having a tough fight ahead of her but it isn't hopeless and it sounds like no one is going to give up on her any time soon.

and prayers for you and for Quincy to get well soon.

Taryn

Yeah, all hope is not lost yet. Distemperment is supposed to take a few days to be able to shake off at minimum from what I hear/read.

So, maybe she can fight her way through it. She's getting IV's, Antibiotics and some Penicillin as treatment. Vet said she still didn't have much energy and wasn't eating a lot. Hopefully its from her medicine and her hectic week.

Thanks for the

Now my challenge for tonight, study for a test I probably cannot pass

Well, today Quinn looked tired. She seemed to be really slow/tender in her movements. Almost as if her head felt heavy. I picked her up and had her sitting on my lap for a few minutes but all she did was keep her head down on my knees and barely even attempted to try to sit down in a comfortable position on me. she didn't make very much eye contact either

She did eat about half a bowl of her kibble today which is a good sign. I got her to eat a little bit of the wet food off of my finger, not very much though. You can tell she doesn't want to eat.

I tried to comfort her by holding her and making 'our' click noise that she is so familiar with hearing at home

She's eating which is an improvement but she seemed even more off the pace today. They said she hadn't received her medicine yet though. They will keep her through Friday and then take another blood test and call us on Saturday morning with the results. I'll visit her tomorrow though of course.

Keep up the positive vibes/love. I appreciate all of you and your kind words for me and Quincy.

if you didn't hear already I just wanted to say thanks for the support and genuine concern all of you showed me this week....today was 1 of the worst days of my life. Quinn did not improve at all this week and when I saw her today it was apparent she was in a lot of pain. they discovered a tumor in her abdomen that was hiding for probably 2-3 months. That has porbably been the chief cause of her weight loss and extremely low white blood cell count.

So in her best interest the vet and I decided that it was time for her to be at peace. she tried but she just wasn't strong enough in the end. thanks for all your prayers and thoughts. she is in heaven now, she's having a blast I bet too. She was an awesome kitty, my very first one (and not my last)

I'll write up a page for her in the over the rainbow section.

Quincy and Andrew

I am so sorry for your loss. She's out of pain now, and playing over the bridge - you gave her that final act of love, as you loved her for all the time you had together.

I'm sorry about your Quincy, RIP little one.

There is a wonderful tribute to Quincy here, so I will now close this thread.
