Windows 7 Explorer reviews?

We are at the point where we have to get DH a new computer. He would be happy to stay with Windows XP, but you can't get computers with XP anymore according to Dell - who we will probably be buying from.

So - there seems to be mixed reviews on Explorer 7. Does anyone have it? Do you like it? How does it compare to XP?

My wife has it, and I doubt she even notices any difference from XP or Vista, except that it does have the fax program they left out of Vista. It can do a lot of stuff, almost none of which my wife uses.

Well, my hubby will definitely notice any differences

It does sound like, though, if she doesn't notice anything different it must be okay.

I have Windows 7 on my new laptop. We like it very much. In fact I think I like it better than XP which is on my desktop.

I actually like Windows 7 explorer compared to Windows Vista- it's much easier to use..it looks like they took a hint from Mac OS and Linux and made it more similar to a unix based OS because I see that similarity

I've spent most of the day getting stuff moved from my old computer (XP) to a Window 7 64-bit computer. I have found that I needed to purchase some upgrades to certain software because, while the software would work, some right-mouse context menus won't work.

I detest the Windows Explorer because it is hard to navigate around the file system the way I'm used to. Some older software requires user edits in the Program Files folder and I have problems with "access denied" messages. I'm now installing those to a Programs directory. But I'm getting used to junctions (like symbolic links in UNIX). I think those who navigate in the Windows XP file structure a lot will get more frustrated than those who aren't. (Especially if you like to rearrange the Programs Start menu).

I have done a lot of internet searches to find explanations to some of the more frustrating things.

But the task bar and the desktop are easier to use as well as getting to the control panel and system properties. I'm getting used to "Pinning" applications to the task bar instead of adding them to the Quick Launch.

If you buy a 64-bit machine, be sure you have Explorer 32-bit enabled. Many web sites, especially those with Flash, don't play nice with the 64-bit version.

But many businesses are happily embracing Windows 7, saying that it's a very good and stable product.

Don't you mean IE? Explorer is just the default file manager that comes with windows - which you can always replace if you don't like features/ram usage of it.

As far as I know the only current file manage that actually is a web browser, too, is Konqueror.

I've had a look at 7's Explorer. Looks like the same old typical Explorer things that I can't stand. If you don't like it and have to have a computer with 7 on it, replace the file manager. Simple fix.
