It will be two weeks on Thursday that Mollipop became a RugCat. Overall, things are going well, I think, although there have been a few problems. The older cats did a lot of hissing at her, not that she really cared all that much.

I honestly thought Whisper would mother her; she's mothered every other cat that's come into this house. Nope, just a lot of hissing. Although the last few days, she's come close enough to give her a swipe or two of her tongue....and that's good.

The other cats went on a hunger strike for a few days right after I brought Mollipop home. After 2 or 3 days, though, I guess they realized that not only was Miss Pop not going anywhere, she was also more than willing to eat their food! That ended the hunger strike....all cats are now eating again.

I guess she's eating OK....she eats a 3 oz can of food every day, in about four helpings. I put her on Royal Canin kitten food and ProPlan Selects kitten food. She eats Purina Kitten kibble throughout the day when we're not home; I put a small dish of kibble in her room (and a small saucer of fresh water) before I leave for work and when we get home, the kibble is gone. After her canned meals, I give her a little Sip to wash her food down a bit. All of our cats get Sip every day; they love it.

She has her own little litter box for now, although I think she's also using the "big kitty" boxes, too. Last night, BooBoo, our big oaf, was trying to hunker that big butt of his in her tiny box. He pooped and peed and didn't cover either...and he's usually good about covering. I cleaned the box out, although I don't think it bothers her that much.

What we really did not expect was that Amber Louise (our orange tabby AKA the Red Tornado, AKA Phantom Kitty) would be Mollipop's play kitty. Amber is very high-strung and nervous about everything. She frightens very easily. The slighest sounds in the house send her into the nearest hidey-hole. I call her our schizo-kitty because honestly, if all the planets are not in complete alignment, she won't eat. She's kind of whacko. She doesn't like to be picked up, but she'll hop on us if we're sitting on the sofa. But if we come walking out the hallway, she gets frightened and runs away for all she's worth.

Well, this morning, I was bending over to dry my hair and I saw Amber go flying back the hallway, with Mollipop right on her tail. A few minutes later, Mollipop came flying out the hallway with Amber right behind her. Amber has been staying out more and more, too. And when we play Da Bird with Mollipop, Amber is right there, playing with us. Which is really good for her.

Mollipop stays in the computer room when we're not home. We don't trust the older cats with her yet. Whisper and BooBoo have a tendency to gang-up on the other cats sometimes (they'll just pick a cat and terrorize it for awhile) and we don't want them to do that with Mollipop as she's just way too young.

She sleeps with us at night, along with the other cats in our bed. She runs through the house, but when she needs a nap, she'll come looking for me and start to squeak. That's her way of telling me that she wants to sleep and that she's ready for me to hold her....she loves to sleep in my arms and I'm taking advantage of that because as she gets older, she may lose that desire to be with me when she's sleepy. I can see that she's already becoming more independent. She loves to suckle on my neck and I've awakened a couple times to her sucking....and I have the marks to prove it (gotten some strange looks, too!). I'm trying to stop her by pulling my collar up higher, putting my hand between her and my neck, etc.

We should have called her "Retract
" because she gets her claws caught in everything and sometimes it's hard for her to get free again. Then I pick her up, say "Retract, little one" and get her loose again. Then she takes off in another direction to play.

Overall, she's doing very well. And she's made us smile again, something we hadn't done much of since Banshee had passed away. She's a sweetie.

Great news that little Mollipop and her elders are starting to settle in. The playing is definitely a good sign, and I bet there will be some kitty snuggling in no time!
