I have noticed that Rex is producing a lot of "dandruff" - this is just in the last several weeks... He was fine up until then. He has also chubbed up a little bit... and he seems... not sure... but seems to be drinking more water than normal.

He is approx. 3 years old.

They eat TOTW and a mix of wet foods. They get some supplements, including ProDen PlaqueOff. My first thought here was something thyroid related b/c of the trace iodine in the dentrifice. But then if he was HYPOthyroid... he would be behaving very differently - according to my research. (This product is contraindicated for hypothyroid cats.)

I tried squeezing some contents of a fish oil capsule into his food but he wouldn't touch it.

I have also noticed that Archie's skin is a bit more flaky, too. But not like Rex's.

And of course they are shedding like the dickens ... these two have the most plush coats.
Any ideas?

You know my first question... when did you change to taste and from what( sorry my memory is not that good)

Hypo is actually fairly rare in cats and yes likely you would see other changes

That's ok, sharky. I don't expect you to recall what everyone on here is feeding their cats!!

Changed to Taste in the end of December, 2009 from a mix of Authority Sensitive solutions (Turkey/Oatmeal) and Natural Balance LID Duck and Green Pea. My new vet said NO to the latter.

I am on GF because of Archie. And I find that Tex - my barfer - is no longer puking on TOTW plus a mix of wet (Authority, Nutro and FF for "flavor"
)

Rex - the dander boy - doesn't seem to be scratching excessively or anything either.

Honestly - their coats overall (all of them) were looking quite good until the last few weeks. My thinking was dry winter air in the house in spite of having a power humidifier on the furnace.

Huh, really? I wondered about that. Because that's about the time the dander started getting substantial. And as I said, he has a dense undercoat. At least he doesn't fight the combing and brushing anymore. He's decided it's kinda nice.
