Hi there,

My kitten will be turning one this month, but she still seems unbelievably tiny..

What's the average length and height for a one-year-old? Am I just being paranoid? :p

Thanks!

They pretty much come in all sizes and shapes. If your vet thinks she is healthy, try not to worry. Cats continue to grow for up to three years, for one thing, and for another, some cats are just tiny.

Ootay (
5/09) never weighed more than 6 pounds.

We care for some former ferals - there were only two kittens produced by the queen (now spayed) - one male, one female. (All are altered.)

The female kitten was about the same as the male until about 6 months, then the female didn't seem to keep up with the male in size.

After about a year and a half, she's still very petite and I would take her as a 6-month old if I didn't know better.

She really isn't all that interested in food, is somewhat of a loner, and appears to be in great health.

She's a girly girl - her mommy isn't really all that big either, and all seem to be healthy.

Like someone else posted - they're all individuals, just like us humans.

They do come in all sizes. Some breeds are huge and keep growing till almost 2 years like maine coons and ragdolls.

We've had 2 very small petite females. Gracie who was adopted out to us as a persian cross was 6 1/2-3/4 pounds her whole life and very healthy until 6 mos before her death at 14.

Aya basically stopped growing at 8mos old and has hovered around 7 lbs since (3.2-3.4 kg). I don't think she's getting any bigger.

They're just tiny cats. If the Vet says yours is healthy don't worry and enjoy whatever size she turns out to be.

Wow, if Gigi possibly has two more years of growing to go...she could be a BIIIIIG kitty
She weighed 2.5 pounds when I got her at 12 weeks and now at one year she weighs 10 1/2 pounds, has a 15 inch girth (right behind her front legs) and a nine inch neck. I noticed when I found her that she had a lot of "bone" (being involved with showdogs, one tends to notice stuff like "bone" and angulation, even on cats, LOL!)...that was part of what I loved about her, her bone and robustness and picture of health. I just ordered her a new walking jacket. Wonder if I'll be buying her an XXLarge in two years?
But yeah, they vary sooo much. My last two girl cats were petite, one had an average weight of six pounds and the other seven; I'm enjoying my new buxom beauty, haha!!! That's why I call her GIGIUS KITTIUS MAXIMUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my cat. Nicole is 1 year old and weighs 5 pounds 5 ounces her vet says she is healthy and that she is just a small cat. She is a bottle fed baby. She was 4 ounces when i found her. She was born that day. We have had a rough first year with her health but her weight is okay with vet so i would say as long as your vet is okay with the weight you are fine.

As everyone else said, there's wide variation. For me example, my Gabriel whom I got as an adult is 5 kg (11 lbs), Pythagoras is a large athletic 6 kilos (a bit over 13 lbs) and was a bit overweight at 1 year old at 6.8 kg. He had been 4 kg at 6 months. Meanwhile my youngest at 7 months now is 2.5 kg and had barely gained any weight on the last month.

Better than looking at the weight is to look at their body distribution. You can find reference pictures online for healthy cat weight, but for a quick glance at a healthy weight you should be able to see an outline of their hips and shoulder blades, but you shouldn't be able to make out ribs.

My kitten was a bottle baby. Found him at 1 day old, he was TINY. Didn't think he'd make it because I'd never bottle fed a kitten before and I think he was only about 105 grams when we found him. But he is now 8 months old and already over 11lbs... he's going to be a big boy lol. But I also have a tiny cat that probably doesn't weigh more than 5-6lbs. So it all depends on the kitty, they're all different. Just like people. [emoji]128578[/emoji]
