I am new to this site, but I am so excited about today, I had to share with other cat lovers. We had to find kitty a new home 5 months ago. She is a stray that we have been taking care of and loving for about 1 1/2 years. The landlord told us she had to go, so a co-worker agreed to give her a home. Kitty didn't stay but a week, and she ran off from her house, which is about 8 miles away (two towns over) Today, as I was leaving, there kitty was, rolling on the sidewalk in the sun, like she always did. She came right to me and ran up the stairs for me to feed her, just like she always did! I cried, I never thought I would see her again! The good news is we are moving to a place that will take pets,(which was the original plan after graduation) and we can make her a 'proper' kitty. I have heard these stories, but I am in total awe with what this cat has gone through to get back here! She came home just in time, a few more weeks and we wouldn't have been here!

Ever since we had her, I was adamant about moving to a pet-friendly place, but was so sad when she had to leave before we could move. I have been in total amazement all day, I just can't believe she made it home! (and she is no worse for wear, she doesn't look like she starved or got into any fights, either)

That is so fantastic! She is such an amazing kitty and also amazing that she knew right where to go to get 'home'.

Animals are so much smarter than a lot of humans give them credit for.

Best of good luck to you and to 'kitty' in your new home!

Thank you! Day 2 and she is still here. Had a fear I'd wake up this morning and she would be gone (kinda silly since she came this far to get home!) She seems so happy and proud of herself, kinda like when she would act when she brought me "presents"! Like she is saying "look mama, I made it!"

I have heard stories like that before, but the people gave the cat away again. I am glad you are KEEPING the cat. It is truly an amazing story of a very smart cat. Wishing you and kitty the best in your new home.

I had a very similiar experience just last summer. I had been caring for a stray cat for about 2 years at an office park. We could not get him into a trap, but after 2 years of caring for him, he just moved into the building. Last August we had to move from that office park and decided to take him with us.

After 1 week, he got out and ran away. I was devastated. But 1 week later he went back to the old place. I know the feeling you felt when you saw her, I had the same feeling when I saw Zach. I made the mistake of taking him back to the new place again. He got out again after only 2 days and ran across a busy street and collided with a car. He got up and ran off. We searched all over for him, I called vets' offices and emergency clinics in case someone would find him. After another week I decided to try the old office again, and there he was! He was not injured at all except for an abraision on his head.

I did what I should have done in the first place, I brought him home and he is living here, and very happily, with the rest of my cats.

I am so happy you are going to keep her and give her a loving home.

I am glad this had a happy ending, for a moment I was afraid it wouldn't! I am glad you gave him a home and is doing good. It sounds like you have a wonderful employer, letting you bring Zach into the building. I am anxious to get her moved with us, my landlord is not very understanding, I never broke the rules in the lease about letting her in (except sometimes she would follow me in while I was getting her food and water) the landlord even sent the animal control to catch her in a trap ( I kept tripping the cage) and insisted the animal control watch the trap until she was caught. I just hope nothing happens until we move. We are so close! I wish I could talk to the landlord, tell her the amazing lengths kitty went through to get back here, and convince her to let her stay. However, I am afraid to bring attention that kitty has come back and we go through what we did last fall. We have been model tenants, and I would hope she would take that into account, but ya just never know, some people just do not care about animals well being. Wish kitty and I luck that this all works out, I have been worrying about this since she has come home!

Wow, it is so hard to believe that people would turn a cat away that obviously is so loyal, so sad. Ever since kitty ran away from my co-workers home, i envisioned her coming back, and we'd move and make her a 'proper' kitty. (I haven't officially gave her a name, always called her 'kitty' or 'miss kitty' but I think it is time to name her, although I like the simplicity of 'miss kitty', I feel she needs a good, strong name). Thank you, and yes, she is a smart, amazing kitty!

Perhaps if you go to your landlord and explain the entire situation, she will relent and let Kitty come inside until you can move together. I would hate to think that she would call Animal Control again. Since you have been such good tenants and are about to leave soon, maybe she would reconsider if she heard the whole story.

By the way, the employer was my husband. He was renting the building at the time but the company he rented from did not mind about the cat in the building at all.

Good luck with Kitty!!

I would keep her indoors and not say a word to the landlord. And then hurry up and get another place that allows pets! This kitty is way too special to be stressed out again!

I'm gonna agree with Dusty's Mom

Telling or not is a decision that's entirely up to you (and a tough one I know!), but kitty is so special and went through great lengths to reconnect with you.

Lots of times cats will try to get back to their old home. I had one who did that after I broke up with a live-in boyfriend. He disappeared from my new place and I was sick. Luckily, I got a call within 24 hours - London was in the hallway crying to be let in! So I was able to go and get him right away and he stayed with me after that. The thing was, he would have had to cross 6 lanes of heavy traffic (E Washington Ave in downtown Madison, WI) in order to get to the old place. I still think it is amazing, and I'm glad the furry friends described here are OK and loved.

Hey C1atsite, can I borrow the artwork in the bottom of your sig? I'd like to post it to my Facebook. It's a great picture for a great cause.

To the original poster -- that is AMAZING. I'm SO glad that it's a good ending for you AND for the kitty -- as she will have a home with you now.

So far so good, was worried for a few days, she didn't seem to want anything to do with me, kinda just looked at me and walked away when I called her. Then gone for 3 days. Today she is back and acting like her old self again, I was worried that she remembered the reason she was gone in the first place is because I put her in the cat carrier and took her to my co-workers home. I guess I just have to remember she has been through a lot and it is gonna take time for her to trust anyone, including me. It breaks my heart though, wish I could explain to her I was just trying to save her life. In the town I live in, if a cat goes to the city pound, well, it isn't usually a good outcome. Thanks everyone for your support and well-wishes! I'll keep ya posted on the transition to a 'pet friendly' home. JacintaMarie
