I just took a bath. I apologize if that's TMI, but, really, we all bathe, don't we? I decided to pamper myself a bit and decided on a bath over my usual shower. I got my comfy pajamas out, put tea on, and was planning on relaxing once I was through. I've done this before -- candles, soft music, bubbles -- it's not completely out of the ordinary. Nothing was different. Nothing.

I have sensitive skin. And, when I say sensitive...I really mean sensitive. I'm pale, freckled, and break out in a rash when most anything touches me. And, that's not mentioning all of my other allergies to food, insects, and medication. But, I've always been able to find some shampoos, conditioners, and body washes (among other things) that don't cause me to break out into hives or a rash of itchy redness. And, the body wash I used tonight is on that "safe" list. Or, rather, was...

So, now, I'm itchy. I have red splotches all over me (with the exception of my face as I use a different face cleanser), There are little bumps and hives breaking out every which way and I can't barely sit because I want to scratch, scratch, scratch. I'm resisting, but it's hard. And, because I've taken my other meds already for the night, I can't take Benadryl. I do take Claritin during the day, but while it helps with regular allergies, it is not helping with this. I'm not hyperventilating nor am I having trouble breathing, but my eye is twitching something terrible and I want to literally scratch my skin off at this very moment. It's miserable. I am miserable.

I guess I just needed to vent. I'm hanging out here until my other meds kick in and I'm tired enough to be able to fall asleep despite the intense itching. I'm not scratching, but, believe you me, I'd like to right about now.

Argh! Itchy! I'm itchy

I thought I'd come back here real quick to update this thread before I go and drag myself upstairs to bed for the night. I'm way exhausted at this point so I apologize in advance should I make no sense in this post
.

I wound up needing to call my doctor's office to have the doctor on call paged. I started getting welts on my face and was beginning to get really uncomfortable -- the hives were severely itchy, but also burned and were painful. Based on my history and the symptoms I had, the doctor recommended I take Benadryl on top of my other meds. I did that and within about 20-25 minutes, I was feeling a lot better. I still have a very red and bumpy rash, but the hives and welts have gone down and I'm feeling more itchiness than pain. It's definitely at a point where I can manage now and I'm just looking forward to crawling into bed with my dog and the kitties if they'll have me.

I'm relieved that I am feeling better, but I still wish I didn't have such crazy reactions to things. Thank goodness this was a mild reaction, though. There are many people who struggle worse than I do, so, even though it's been a not-so-fun night, I'm grateful that I can go to bed and sleep at least semi-comfortably.

Now, if only I could relax about everything else going on in my life

Oh goodness hun, I'm so sorry.
That doesn't sound fun at ALL! I also really, really love my bubble baths and have one almost nightly but luckily my skin isn't really sensitive. Hopefully you're feeling better soon.

I was getting hives on/off since September. I don't know what was causing it except heat brought them out. I didn't change any soaps, laundry etc....I know how yucky it feels. My doctor gave me a prescription. It's a PITA when it puts your life on hold while you wait for the itches to go away. Mine weren't huge but they burned and hurt when I scratch...not the good kind of itches. I am dreading summer
Feel better

I'm glad you were able to take the benedryl after all, smart move calling the doc. How awful to be so sensitive to things on your skin.

I have a sensory sensitivity disorder which makes me pretty miserable generally but at least it doesn't give me rashes.

Hope you are much better this morning, have not scratched all your skin off, and throw that stuff you used away!

Just a thought, it may not have been the body wash at all. I very well could have been a cleaner or something of that sort that you used in the bath tube. While taking a shower it wouldn't really have an effect on you because essentially the only part of that touches the tub is your feet. When you fill the tub up with water and then submerse yourself what ever could have been in the tub is now all in the water and the water is now all around you! I've had this problem before (a minor reaction nothing too serious) after cleaning the shower and tub. DH is a mechanic so I have to use some nasty chemicals to remove all the grease and oil from our tub and shower walls. I must not have rinsed as much as I usually do, wham, nasty itchy skin.
