Tessie eating plant.

Thread Starter
At my parents house Tessie has been eating one of my Mom's plants! She keeps throwing up the leaves and the plant is getting destroyed. This has been going on for over a month now. We have been cutting back the parts she chews on to make it look like she didn't touch it (Dad would freak out if he found out). Is there anything I can spray on the plant that will make her stop eating it but also will not kill the plant?

Thanks!

Well, what kind of plant is it? You need to find out if it is toxic to cats. It obviously is doing something to her if she is vomiting.

IMO, I'd get rid of the plant. How big is it? Can it be put outdoors. But if it were me, the plant would go. There are many lists as to what plants are toxic to cats. Try the Cat Fanciers Association or the SPCA site. They both have lists.

Try placing it in a "cage" of chicken wire. There really is no way to get your cat to stop eating it. I wouldn't trust a spray to work 100%.

Others may come along with additional info.

Caging the plant in is probably your best bet unless there's another room with proper lighting that it can be moved to and the cat shut out of.

If you have problems identifying the plant, share a picture of it and what let us know what type of lighting it's in.

You can spray the plant - both sides of the leaves - with bitter apple spray. Even the "safe" houseplants can cause vomiting.

My cat allows me to have houseplants if I have a nice pot of cat grass for him.
