I just realized - today, April 1st - is Dorian Grey's birthday!

Then I realized I have no idea how old he is.

I'm very bad at keeping track of birthdates & years. I think he's got to be about 5 years old or so?
Then I realized I'm not sure how old quite a few of my cats are.

Anyways - Happy Birthday Dory!!!

Happy birthday Dory!

When I adopted Holland from the shelter, they estimated her birthdate at 5/31/08, and her vet agreed. She was almost 5 months old when I adopted her, and had been at the shelter for 2 months, so I'm sure it was easier to guess at her birthday. Since she's still so young, I know exactly how old she is, but ask me again in 5 or 6 years and I may not remember...

Shareena and Miss Patchwillow have a birthday coming up soon. I was just thinking today that they will be 2 years old, then realized it's 3 years. It doesn't seem possible that I've had them that long.

Happy birthdaay Dory!

Since all of mine are adopted, I'm not really sure of their exact age - except Lil' Jag who we found as a 3.5 month old kitten.

Kuce - estimated bday - 6/1993
Luvbug - estimated bday - 7/2000
Lil' Jag - 8/2004 (the only one that is definite)
My RB cat Sphinx - estimate bday - 6/1986 to 7/2004

I *think* Dory is 5. That means if I'm right, Twitch & Cow are going to be 8 shortly. That got me thinking....that means Ophelia Rose would be 9 or 10 years old!
And Slinky turns 12, Tabitha 10 or 11?? I'm trying to do the math & line up ages - which is scary because they're all getting so OLD!

Aww, Dory and my girl, Cassie, share the same birthday. Happy Birthday Dorian Grey -- may you have many, many more to come!

I do know my cats' birthdays and how old they are. Well, they're approximate on the dates, but I know for certain the years they were born.

Cassidy was born on 4/1/2008. That makes her 2 years old today!

Delaney was born on 6/5/2008. She'll turn two in June. They shelter estimated she was born between the end of May and the very beginning of June, but gave her the June 5th birthday.

Emory was born on 11/28/2007. She will turn three at the end of November this year. The date is approximate, but that's what the shelter gave her as a birthdate, so I go with it. If anything, they said they may be a month off, but not much more or less than that.

Finnegan was born on 9/30/2009. He's my baby and just over 6 months.

I like knowing their birthdays. And, I like celebrating them -- even if the cats do think I'm a bit batty

Tolly was estimated at five weeks old when he found me, so I am pretty sure about his birth date, to a few days anyway.

Mazy was estimated as 6 months old when I adopted from the shelter her (in February 2005), so I made her another August baby, so she and Tolly add a year in mid-August. Tolly will be 11 and Mazy 6. Wow.

Jennie was estimated between one and two years old so I decided she was 1 1/2 when she found me which makes her birthday in April. So as of this month Jennie is officially four years old.

Interesting topic!

The lady I got Rusty and Dusty from said they were born on Dec 1, 2007. We got them when they were 7 weeks old! They are going to be 3 this year

Pixel, Cable & Firefox - i'm very close to their correct ages. all were tiny kittens when i got them - either less than or approximately 8 weeks old.
Java [according to the vet] was 3.5 months old when i got her, which puts her birthday in january [rather an odd time...]. Chip - anybody's guess. the shelter told me approximately 3-5 years, but basically, he was an adult, all the teeth, etc. so it's just an educated guess on their part.

Happy Birthday Dorian!!! (I ADORE that name, by the way!)

Sophie was a tiny baby when I found her, so the vet was able to estimate her pretty accurately at 5 weeks. I subtracted exactly 5 weeks from the date I found her, so her "celebration day" is August 13.

We're pretty good with ages and birth dates for our pets, because we have a very long-standing tradition of celebrating *all* their birthdays, each year. My parents started it when my sister and I were small, but it was always such fun that we've kept the tradition going our entire lives. No party hats or outfits, LOL, just a treat with dinner (some boiled chicken or lean ground beef for the dogs, probably fresh fish for Sophie when her first birthday rolls around) and then an acceptable "dessert" (no birthday cake for the animals!). The dogs get doggie ice cream for dessert...I still have about 4 months to figure out a nutritious feline alternative for birthday cake!

I do not know the exact dates, I just kind of round it off to a month. We don't celebrate the cats "birthdays" they get xmas presents though and treats throughout the year.

Candy is 7
Fudge is 8
Floss is 3
Smartie is 4
Billy is approxamately 8-9 (he was a stray)

I don't celebrate birthdays with the cats either, even though I do keep track of their ages, but we do celebrate Gotcha Days.

Happy Birthday Dory!

Flash was 6weeks old when we got her on about the 26th august meaning she was born start of july time so shes roughly 19months old

Sooty was also 6weeks old when we got him in the october so he was born late early september making him about 17months old

Roughly I guess, for all but Autumn, we know what year they were born in, vet estimates for her age are all over the place (from 3 to 7 when she first arrived at the shelter, they had her advertised at 3-4 years from the vet I am more likely to trust and my vet agreed with that age when I got her a year later) but we chose the actual dates for birthdays as, with the exception of Boomer, we don't know when they were born

I only know Ari's as I got him from a member who was his foster. Topaz is a mystery, as she was a stray.

I am sitting here trying to remember how old sis's cat Packy is and she must be close to 15!

Happy birthday to your kitty.

I don't know the exact birthdate of either of my cats, but I know within ~1-month. I consider Ally's birthday on T-day and Ollie's b-day on New Years. As for their age, I'll always have their chip serial number to tell me that. All I need to know is the original date of activating service for their chips and then I can figure it out from there (+3 months for Ollie and +4 months for Ally).

While I realize it's simple math, a good website to use for counting time since a certain date is http://www.timeanddate.com . An attorney introduced me to the site when I was interning for him a few other crim-law attys. I used it daily to figure out stuff like the exact amount of time since jailed individual's arrest and other similar uses. I think I even once used it to find out if the statute of limitations had run out for one person. It's a neat site. Worth bookmarking IMO.

I only know rough guesses on some of them. I did see Sho the day he was born, but can't remember what day it was - only that it was mid August. I can narrow down Tomas and the kittens to within a week due to how young they were when I got them. A ten week old kitten always looks pretty much like a ten week old kitten.

Sho was born mid August 2002. ~7 years, 8 1/2 months
Tomas was born mid September 2006. ~ 3 years, 7 1/2 months
The kittens: Tanna, Blaan, and Blasa were born mid September 2009. Putting them around ~7 1/2 months.

Sherman is a little over ~3 years.
Siri is suspected to be 4-6 years old.

MewMew was born spring 2007, probably around late April or May. ~ 2 years, 10 months
Boo was probably May 2008 - I'm not exactly sure, but he's fairly young. ~1 year, 10 months.

Kitten seasons here follow a very predictable pattern. They can be born outside those times, but if they're stray/feral without human care the winter kittens usually don't survive.
