I am new here, and wasn't sure where to post this. If this is not the place, I am sorry. My Fiance wnats to get a cat, but I am allergic to them. Does anyone know of anything I can take for it? I get a runny nose, and itchy, red, watery eyes. A friend told me about this medicine called Alavert, but I wanted to know if it worked before she got the cat, and then had to get rid of it. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Go to your doctor and have him give you a prescription for cat allergies. Also get the Freebreeze that controls allergens, a vacuum with a hepa filter and a cat allergen reducing shampoo for the cat. All of these should reduse any discomfort you may have!

The good news also is that tt is also a fact that some people show a reduction in allergic reaction to cats once they have been exposed for an extended amount of time, giving the body time to build up resistance.

Also, you might be less/more allergic to specific breeds of cats. Might be worth checking into. Go spend time with some breeders and see how you do.
