I use Vitamin Shoppe's brand and need to re-order. Before I do that, I want to make sure I'm using the best quality lysine for my cats. I've read that "natural" lysine is better than the synthetic. Also what constitutes "pure" lysine? Below is VS's ingredient list. Is this a good product?

It's a good deal and I appreciate the easy to open capsules.

Here is the link for the one from Now brands, as Sharky said, is is 100% pure L-Lysine, pharmaceutical Grade, and nothing else.

There is often a misconception that natural compounds are better than synthetics, but the truth is, when you are talking about PURE compounds, the natural and the synthetic are the same thing.

The difference often comes how you deliver it - the synthetic sometimes come contaminated, not pure, and on the other hand, the natural come in the form of food, or a fruit, or something else with hundreds of other compounds that helps to deliver/intensify the one you are referring to. Most times nobody even knows how that works...

But when you put the PURE compounds/molecules, side by side, when they are the same, but one is synthetic, and the other one is natural, there is no difference - there is only marketing.

The bottom line, IMO, is if I want to give my cat Lysine, I prefer to give him Lysine and no other additives.

Okay, thanks guys. I thought there may be a chance the other ingredients made up the capsules rather than mixed into the lysine itself.

The gelatina and rice flour, at least, I would guess is definitely the capsule - they usually use a starch and gelatin for them, looking online most capsule form supplements have all three

gelatin yes is normally the capsule( I always look for vegan caps to ensure lower cross contamination risk) ... rice flour is used not in it but on it and and a powder binding agent ( ie it is both inside and outside

magnesium stearate is also used on capsules, however it sucks because it is not safe...

So I guess Problem solved? - the three of them are used for the capsules?
