So I learned the hard way...

...to never let the Feliway run out. I was hoping I wouldn't have to keep buying the stuff, and that once Imogen got used to using the litter box like a good cat, she would be fine.

Not so much. The past three or four days I've found clumps of poop all over the bathroom floor, and even a couple of pee puddles on the floor, which she has never done before. (In her defense, the puddles were right next to the litter boxes...it looked like she just had her heiney hanging over the edge and missed the tray.)

No difference in litter, food, etc. For the week or two leading up to this she's been fantastic. I had finally been able to give her free run of the apartment, including the carpeted bedrooms (gasp!) when I was at work all day. She used the litter box perfectly every time.

So, when this all started, I suddenly remembered the Feliway, and sure enough, it's completely used up. Ordered a refill a couple of days ago and praying that it arrives today. I hate having to keep her cooped up in a "safe and easy-to-clean" zone.

Anyway, just needed to rant.

I'll be completely honest and say that I don't know your history with Imogen so if this has already been suggested please forgive my ignorance.

Since you say her piddle puddles appear to be from her hanging off the side, have you considered/tried oversized tubs as litterboxes? I don't mean the tall-sided litterboxes, I mean a storage tub. You could even cut a hole in the top of the lid so she has no chance of hanging off the edge. You could try a clear tote, too, to see if her problem with poo'ing in the litterbox is because she can't see what's going on around her (you don't say if it's a covered box or not ).

Do you have 2 litterboxes for her to choose from? Rule of thumb is # of cats +1. A lot of cats do not like using the same box for both poo and pee. It's instinct - if they spread their business around then predators have less chance of finding them.

Like I said, you may have already tried all the tricks in the book and I'm just preaching to the choir. But just in case...

If you have, at least you've found that Feliway works well! I'm sorry that it ran out on you...it's hard to tell when those diffusers are running low!

Don't worry about it; I appreciate your suggestion! I have considered the giant Rubbermaid tub idea, but I frankly don't have room for such a large contraption in my apartment. Oh, and she does have two litter boxes, right next to each other. That's clearly her preferred method, though it took a quite a few headaches on my part to figure that out. Maybe she does need them to be bigger though...

Anyway, I'm hesitant to change because she was doing so well before the Feliway died, and I'm hoping to eventually get her comfortable enough to toilet-train her. The individual, workable-sized boxes I have for her now would be ideal for me to do that...but again, I know, it's not about me all the time

I noticed that my older girl was quite hissy yesterday. She'd hissed at our other cat twice that I had heard. Went to the Feliway diffuser...sure 'nuff it was out! Totally understand where you're coming from!
