OK folks......we all have that litter that gets tracked, even right after you`ve run the sweeper......I have a Swiffer Vac that I use between reg vacs....and it works well for collecting cat hair....but won`t touch the tracked litter throughout the house.....SOOOOO what do you use that will actually pick it up without having to drag the big sweeper out or having to broom ? There`s GOT to be something out there that I have`nt found yet!!

get a good door mat to put in front of the litter boxes. The kinds that are designed to take dirt off boots and shoes.

That cuts down on the litter tracking to almost none!

I have a dirt devil kurv vacuum. I love it. It picks up all the extra litter that is around the litter box, plus all the cat fur around the apartment and any other little messes in between sweeping.

I've tried that, but the boys don't like walking on a litter mat so when I put one down then they jump out of the box as far as they can to avoid the mat and end up scattering even more litter from the big take-off

I've found it works better to put the mat a few inches away from the litter box. That way when they jump out the actually land on the mat unless they're working really hard to get across it.

I've got the kind that doesn't feel scratchy on their feet. It cost a little more, but really worth it. It's a big one so they have to take about ten steps on it before getting off it. No litter in the rest of the house.

think I got it at Home Depot. $17 +-

The only drawback is..the litter doesn't shake off, the mat has to be vacuumed to be cleaned, but still better than having the litter all over the house!

To actually collect/pick it up? A stronger vac or broom is it. I question how well that swiffer vac can pick up cat hair if it can't pick up litter.
Is this from carpet or bare floors?

I just sweep, it's easier and gets everything so that I don't have to go over the floor twice.

We have mostly hardwood floors with tile in the bathroom and leno in the laundry (where the litter is) and just a few area rugs, so the Swiffer Vac really does a good job of picking up cat hair to run it through our tiny house a couple times a day.....but I`d love to find a small hand held type of Dust Buster or ??? to use between dragging out the sweeper once or twice a week.....we have one cat that is absolutly scared to death of 'the closet monster', and I don`t see him for a few hours after I`ve put it back away....so I sort of feel bad doing it on a daily basis.
I`ll get a mat and see if that helps unless someone out there has a better idea.
Thanks!
Linda

Mats do no good whatsover with my little mess maker. And I just vacuumed 3 days ago!

And that's petite little Cindy who does this. I'll never forget the first night we had her, she spent the night in my bathroom. When I opened the door the next day, Cindy was nowhere to be seen (she was hiding in the bathtub behind the shower curtain) and the room looked like the litter box exploded.

I haven't found anything that works other than lugging the boxes out of the room and lugging the vacuum in there. I have a hand vac, but thats not ideal, since I just don't do it every day

If it's a bare floor, just sweep - if it's not too bad you may be able to cheat by just sweeping around the boxes once or twice a day (after scooping). It's far easier than even using a light weight vac - at least for me with my back and neck problems.

Higher sided litter boxes can help for messy kitties. And trying different mats, as mentioned. Some litters track less than others, too.

I have an Electrolux Pronto 2 in 1 vacuum that is really good. I got it at Sams wholesale store and it's been a lifesaver on more then one occasion. Doesn't work so well on carpet but it works well on bare floors. I use it in all the rooms I have with no carpeting and I have to say, I really like it! It also has a detachable hand held vacuum in it which I use alot also. Give this one a try. It's lightweight and easy to work with. So to me it's the best for the money. I think I paid $70 ish for it, but don't quote me.

Well no...that goes beyond tracking litter, LOL! Since little
Cindy likes to kick and dig, how about some high sided tote boxes instead. Then she can kick all she wants!

If you don't want to use those, you could also get one of those large shallow under the bed type storage boxes, and put the litter boxes in it, so at least to contain the mess. then you can just lift the boxes out, and dump the mess back into them, from the shallow tray.

Where do you find the high sided boxes? I've never seen any anywhere. I'd LOVE to find a way to contain the mess

Ooh, I like that one, I like the opening. Maybe I'll try one, see if they take to it.

(BTW, I didn't mean to hijack this thread....sorry!)

I second this. We use a tote for Trout too, there is no way I would ever go back to a tiny box.
