Cat in heat misbehaving

Is it normal for a cat in heat to misbehave or act differently than normal. Maybe I should ask what kind of things they do when they are in heat. Are they more likely to do things that they normally wouldn't? I have a cat in heat and she used to like to be confined to one room, she felt secure in one room and now she wants in and out of the room all the time, she starts fights with my other cats, etc. Is this normal behaviour? She used to be afraid of my other cats and hide from them. Are cats more bold and brave to fighting when they are in heat?

Thanks for your feedback.

It would be strange if a cat in heat didn't have a behavior change of any sort.

Yes, it's normal that she'll want out more. She wants to find a mate. As for fighting.. well, just remember that she's "hormonal" right now. That her hormones are going to make her a little goofy and more pushy with the other cats.

Since you aren't familiar with this, I'm betting she's just a moggie? If so, I hope you can spay her soon. She'll have around a week long heat cycle then you'll have a two week break to get her in to the vet before she can come into heat again. If you don't want to risk upsetting whatever balance your cats have with each other in the home, you have to get it done soon.

Some vets will spay a cat in heat but it's more difficult so many like to wait.

I have a tiny girl myself that is in her first heat. I'm going to tell the vet just to deal with her smallness (adjust meds appropriately) because she is absolutely annoying and I'm not going to wait till she grows more - she'll be at the vet next Thursday if I have my way.

It sounds like you have a few to many kitties, atleast since the last we have heard from you........It is difficult for anyone to suggest or advise anything when so little information is given over a couple year period.....

She isn't misbehaving, she is reacting to her biological (hormonal) changes. I do hope you will get her spayed as soon as possible after this heat is over. Poor kitty, it's very hard on them to go into heat over and over.

It is completely normal for all of her behaviours and more...

She wants out of the room to find a mate, and your other cats are competition against possible mates (and if there is an intact male in the house it will be even worse)

They can also spray, are usually very vocal and loud with it
