Litter Issues?

Hello everyone! Some of you might remember me but i havent been on this forum in a while..

I just had a question about litter.
I use Special Kitty - Multicat - Clumping litter in 2 litter bins because i have 2 cats. But ever since we got the second litter bin we have noticed that the litter is NOT clumping at all.. Even when urine is a day old, it still breaks up when i scoop it and that causes me to have to use excessive amount of litters to refill the bin way to often. The other litter bin we had from before does not give us this problem, even urine clumps perfectly after a couple minutes.

Anyone know why this is happening?
-SAME litter
-Both plastic bins
-Cats use both bins

ALSO, some days when i go check the litter before i clean it, i notice that some of the waste is not covered. Ive been there when they use it sometimes and ive witnessed them just using it and walking away, but other times they use it and cover it. And sometimes one would use it, then the other would go in and cover it for them... GAH

Are they both the same type of box? Covered? Uncovered?

Where's the non clumping box? Is it in/near a bathroom with a shower/tub? Cause the only thing I can think of is something is keeping it from drying out as well as the other box.

You know, I never really gave it much extra thought. But I used chicken feed for my litter and will not put a litter box in my bathroom due to the humidity and not wanting to risk any mold in the box at all. I hadn't thought that it could possibly affect clumping, but it makes sense that it could.

Hmmm.. well one is under covered but the other one has a clip on lip sort of attachment that prevents litter falling over the edges.. And they are both in the same area in the basement .. Around the water tank/furnance .. I havent moved them
But the thing is .. When we first changed over the litter from non-clumping to clumping after my kitten got of age we didnt have a problem .. Its only been happening for the past few months now..

but as i said before, they are both about 5 feet away from each other in the basement .. it makes no sense to me

That's strange. And they don't pee more in the box with clumping issues? Or does one of them only pee in that box?

If it's not because of more pee in that box or larger pee clumps from one cat, I'm out of ideas. Maybe you'll have to try another litter?

Since this is the same brand/type of litter you have been using - could it be a bad batch? Perhaps contact the company and let them know what is happening - maybe they'll send you a coupon for some more litter.

My first thought as well was a bad batch. Stranger things have happened..

I dont think its a bad batch because it works in one litter box, just not the other one. If it was a bad batch wouldn't it not work in both litter boxes?
