What do you usually do for your Easter dinner?

Everybody is coming to our house for dinner; there will be ten of us. I'm making stuffed ham (ham stuffed with a cornbread stuffing), scalloped potatoes, sagaponek corn pudding (from Ina Garten), red beet pickled eggs, sauteed green beans with shallots (another Ina recipe), garlic parmesan yeast rolls, mandarin orange and pecan salad, and for dessert a sugar-free strawberry pie and a cake. My sister is bringing both red and white wines (and her wine glasses; I really need to get new wine glasses).

I saw on a blog about a 12-layer cake and I'm intrigued. It looks pretty much like a torte with the 12 thin layers and chocolate between them. Since my niece loves both chocolate and peanut butter (and it's her birthday), I'm going to go ahead and fill the vanilla layers with the chocolate frosting. But then I'm going to make my whipped peanut butter frosting and use that to frost the outside of the cake. I'm hoping it will be good.....I've never done that kind of a cake before; the most layers I've done is 3.

What do you do for your Easter dinner? Anything special??

We have almost 25 people in our immediate family and this year my nephew is hosting. He is doing a deep fried turkey, we'll have stuffing done in the oven, mashed potatoes, broccoli/cauliflower casserole, ham, roast beef plus many desserts, salad and several appetizers.

Winchester, I am coming over for Easter dinner!

It's just my DH and I for dinner, but I like to make a special one. I usually do lamb. So it will probably be roast leg of lamb with the usual trimmings: roast potatoes, parsnips, sweet potatoes, steamed carrots and brocoli. I'll bake a bread too. For dessert I'm thinking a trifle made with marscapone, or I could do a real tiramisu.
I'm going to look up traditional Jewish Passover food as there was a recipe that someone posted about last year that sounded really yummy.

I am making a turkey dinner. Turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn or green beans (haven't decided yet) and some kind of bread. I will probably make jello or something for my sister since she only eats the turkey and potatoes. For dessert, my mom is bringing cheesecake.

I normally would go to my sister's house for dinner but this year I'm going to Russell's sister's house for dinner. He knows I don't cook much so he wouldn't dare ask me to cook
I will bring something altho I don't know what yet, probably Italian pastry from the Italian bakery near me. They make delicious pastries so all will enjoy them I'm sure. Later that evening we will visit my sister and see the rest of my family who will all be there. It should be a nice day. Geesh I feel married already perish the thought, having to visit two families on holidays.

We don't get special dinners on Sundays, because of our choir involvement -- just no time -- the more so on Easter. It's been a source of frustration for DH's family, who do gather and would like to see our shining faces, but have to do without because it's always on the Island, and means much too much scramble on a holiday weekend.

This year we have decided to grill burgers and dogs outside....it`s supposed to be near 80 here in Michigan this Easter Sunday and we are all hungry for something grilled.
Potato salad, baked beans, chips & dip and coconut cake are also on the menu.
Can`t wait!!!

Do you know why ham is so often a part of the Easter meal?

The origins are unclear, but it seems to be at least partially to differentiate Christians from Jews, who celebrated Passover at the same time. The Christians did not want to be mistaken for Jews.

There are other reasons, other myths, other theories. There's no mention of such a celebration by Christians in the New Testament, by the way. It may be the early church incorporated a pagan celebration that happened about the same time of year.

Oh no, I haven't even thought about Easter dinner! We are having a party this weekend and our daughter's birthday is Sunday and we are going to a friend's brunch this weekend so I'm bringing a dish to that. I'm ready for all of that! Just forgot about Sunday dinner - maybe we can eat out.

We've never had a special Easter dinner. Other than boiled eggs, of course.

My mom always makes lamb and a egg salad out of the eggs we had decorated
She also makes an easter bread (more like sweet pastry) with raisins and cinnamon, almonds, it tastes really unique, I am not sure what else she puts in it but there has gotta be something..When I was a kid there was also easter cookies in the shapes of bunnies..
other random sides too, but one thing my family has to have on Easter is beer not sure why ( we don't drink beer often at all, sometimes only on easter lol)...I guess it must go well with the lamb.
It must have something to do with the coming of spring because beer isn't much of a winter beverage

Over the river and through the woods...
MIL is making Easter dinner and it's very low key. She's cooking a ham (for sandwiches) and having potato salad, maccoroni salad, pickled beets, deviled eggs, veggie tray...more picnic food but people will be in and out all day so it's easiest.

Side note: does anyone have a recipe for Portugese sweet bread? My mom used to make that for Easter when I was little and I haven't had it in years. I know it's a little late to make if for Easter this year but I'm craving it and can't find her recipe. I know, I can goggle it, but I'm too lazy!

Oh, I'm not really cooking this year. I am planning on making the rounds among TCS members' dinners, starting with Winchester's and then stopping by Russell's sister's house, etc. I should have a pretty busy day, even without having to cook.

Actually, I'm making homemade barbeque. I usually do a spiral ham with all the fixins'. I don't know what I'll serve with it, probably something simple. I am also making spinach dip.

When we used to go to my uncle's house for Easter, he'd make a ham and a deep fried turkey. Since we've moved, Rob and I usually alternate where we go for Easter (though this year we have zero easter plans). His parents are making "boiled dinner", which I'm not a fan of, so maybe we'll head out to a restaurant tonight as a belated date night (since we cooked at home last night).
