We had corned beef and cabbage a while back, for St. Patrick's Day. While Dottie was cutting up the cabbage, Flambe was very insistent that he wanted some. She gave him a little piece of a leaf, and he ran off with it. She figured he just wanted something to play with.

So, yesterday, she was making cole slaw. Flambe, again, wanted a piece. She gave him about a 2 inch square piece of cabbage leaf, and he stayed right there and ATE it!

Any idea why? Or is this just one of those weird cat tastes?

Who knows? Years ago I had a cat, Mookie, who was crazy over tomatos.

They never stop surprising us do they?

Tanna likes munching on spinach, too.
Even in non-toxic (to cats) veggies, you need to be very careful what you let your cat get. If you have a cat prone to calcium oxalate crystals or that is already hypothyroid, getting certain veggies too often can make these problems worse.

When Max was alive, he always stuck his head in the grocery bags as I unpacked them. When he came to the bag with the collards, he would eat them.

they can be very opportunistic with strange tastes sometimes! My Pushy likes olives, pasta, and the occasional leafy green thing too.

Lol, I have no idea but Jake loves bananas somehow. I discovered it the same way, every time I eat a banana he was up in my face smelling it and about to eat it. From now on he gets a half inch slice off of the banana each time I eat one because he meows and follows me around begging for some.
My cousin's kitty Rocko loves canteloupes just as much as Jake with his bananas

Friends of ours had a cat who was totally bonkers over canteloupe too. None of ours have had really weird taste, though Shasta wouldn't leave us alone if we had chili.

It's not strange at all.

When Banshee was alive, she shared DH's breakfast banana for years; they would sit at the kitchen table together and she wanted her share. She loved cantaloupe and mango....she could be back in bed sound asleep and until I had the cantaloupe sliced in half, she was on the kitchen floor at my feet, meowing for all she was worth.

She also shared DH's Honey Bunches of Oats cereal. She loved Frosted Shredded Wheat, too, and would sit on the back of the sofa with her front paws on DH's shoulders, so she could pat him when she was ready for her next bite. And she was a Cheerios hound. But she loved her Frosted Shredded Wheat the best. DH hasn't bought a box of Frosted Shredded Wheat since Banshee went to the Bridge.

As soon as I put a turkey or chicken in the oven to roast, she would sit by the oven door, waiting for the bird to come back out. Then she would pace around the kitchen, crying for some. When I opened cans of tuna, I opened an extra can, just so she could have some....she did share that with the other cats. She loved crab, too. If I made something with crab, she always made sure she was with me.

We talked to her vet about her food habits. The vet said that, as long as she didn't overdo, she could have pretty much anything she wanted.
