I don't know if this might work, but does anyone have a son or daughter or friend who might like to come to France for a month or so in the summer to help me run the house and garden and look after the animals? I am negotiating for a knee replacement op this summer and will be fairly incapable for a few weeks. And even before the operation, I am finding it increasingly difficult to climb stairs, lift things, kneel down etc. I need someone to help me four or five hours a day with basic cleaning, cooking and gardening, and who can change the beds and vacuum the rental cottage once a week. S/he must also be willing to clean the cat trays and muck out the pony field. A driving licence would be very useful. In return I offer board and lodging, use of a car, and the opportunity to speak French with my friends and learn about French culture and history in this delightful part of Northern France. I would be happy to have more than one person over the summer, any time through June, July and August, maybe for two or three weeks at a time. I cannot put up more than one (or a couple sharing) at a time, as the cottage will be booked and I only have one spare room in my house.

If any of you have any ideas on how I can make this work, or want to volunteer, I would be delighted to hear from you. I guess it would suit students who are already travelling round Europe in a gap year or summer vacation.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I wish I could do it too!
Oh to be 19 again!

Good luck Jenny - there's GOT to be someone who wants to do it. Maybe offer to pay airfare? But if you go that route, you have to check references.

If you don't get contacted by anyone through TCS, what about contacting US colleges foreign studies or language programs?

I think that would be a great opportunity for some young person looking to practice their French. I think you'd find someone easily in England. Have you thought about a job posting in a backpacker type magazine or on a college work board?

I am going to go several routes to try to get someone. But I posted here first, as I would rather get someone through personal contact, for obvious reasons. And I trust TCS members!
