Baby Girl is between 5-6 weeks pregnant (confirmed by ultrasound). She has started to put on weight, is sleeping all the time, and eats like a little horse. She doesn't want any of the other cats/dogs around her. She doesn't want us to touch her belly at all. Normally she can jump about 4 feet off the floor onto one of the cat trees platforms. Today she barely made a 2 feet jump (I think her extra weight is starting to pull her down). This is my first cat pregnancy. She has an apt. to have an x-ray done Friday 4/2/10. I can't wait. When should we be able to feel/see the babies move?

Movement is usually felt around 7 weeks and afterwards towards birth...my latest queen, her babies were quite excited inside and moved alot.

Even now as kittens, you can just imagine them inside doing the Mamba LOL

The xray is a good idea, just to get an estimate on how many you might expect. I'm going for another with one of my other queens in a week. I need to know what I'm up against because all kittens will be removed from mom for 48 hrs due to blood type incompatibility. I also am so curious as to how many there are LOL. It almost kills me not knowing LOL.

Yup, usually in the last 1-2 weeks you'll start to feel them move
She's really pretty! In the next few weeks her belly will be growing as you watch

I can't wait to watch her get bigger and then to have the kittens. What is the best litter to use in case she has any in the litter box? I was thinking of using paper ran through the paper shredder. That's what the vet had me use for one of my rescued kittens after they took his toe off. (When I found him the toe was 3/4 of the way cut off so I took him to the vet and had the surgery done) Also, I'm planning to use a heating pad set on low, sandwiched between 2 towels, with a blanket on top to help warm the kittens after birth. Will this be enough padding to keep them from getting too hot or burned by the heating pad?

It sounds like you're all prepared!

I'm not sure how absorbant shredded paper would be- it's not too common(though not unheard of) for them to have them in the litter box, so that's not a huge worry. I'd get non-clumping, just in case though.
I'm not an expert on the heating pads, but you probably don't need one unless the room is cool. Mom is pretty warm when she's in there with them, and they all huddle in a big pile when they sleep

I use a heating pad for my kittens because mine are bald LOL. Mine is on high with a fleecy type blanket on top of that. It is warm to the touch but not hot at all in the sense they'd be burned while laying on it.

I think you'd do fine without a heating pad, yours will have fur and mom there to warm them. If you do find they are chilled, you can add the heating pad at any time.

My next litter is due in about 17 days. I am going to have the xray next week to find out the possible amount of babies.

I've never had a cat give birth in the litter box. My girl last year dug in the litter box like she was digging to China, which is what woke me up to the fact she was in labour. Some cats think that they need to go #2 when labour starts. Remember, all cats are different though, and may just lay down and start pushing.

I'll be watching this thread in anticipation of the birth. I know I'm going crazy with excitement! I have a litter of 2.5 week olds, but still, birth is so exciting to watch and help mom with. First time moms especially, I make sure I'm there to assist if necessary and if nothing else, provide support and a soothing voice
