Hi
New here, but hoping for some thoughts or advice...

I have 2 female cats that got preg almost at the same time, and now they have both delivered (2 weeks apart). Now it seems that once one of the kittens from one mom meows, the other mother goes, takes the kitten, and adds it to her litter. This goes both ways. Both moms will allow the others kitten to nurse, and they are not fighting over which kitten goes in what nest. Is this just communal parenting, or should we do something to separate the litters?

Thanks in advance!!

If the mothers allow it, let it happen. As long as all of the kittens get enough to eat. They'll probably think they're all litter mates anyways.

Are the mothers closely bonded, too? Do they mutually groom each other? If they do, they'll share scent and that won't confused the kittens much.

The moms are actually mother - daughter, and do groom each other. They share a lot of the same personality, and seem to be getting along just fine. Maybe I'm just being a silly human
Thanks

One big family, then.
Domestic cats really are more like lions in this aspect, they're more social and will care for each others young if they're bonded.

Are these pedigreed cats or are they just regular non breed moggies? If the latter, I hope you can get them spay soon since the mother cats can go back into heat just a few weeks after giving birth. I bet your hands are full with two litters of kittens right now.
If you need help finding low cost solutions for this people here will help if you let them know where you're located.
Don't forget to check out the pregnant cat and kitten section for any tips you may need.

They are all non-breeds, regular house tabbys. Right now, they are all nesting under someone elses bed, but they will be out and about real soon
Thanks for the thoughts

Welcome to the site!

Like said, if the Moms are fine, it's fine! As long as the bigger ones let the others get enough to eat
