yeah...I just threw my back out changing the litter boxes. (I have a bad back to begin with buldging disks, degenerated disks and a torn one.) It feels like I made the tear on my torn disk worse. (since it hurts in that same area)

Maybe I should wear a back brace while changing the litter?

While I was laying on the floor in pain with the bag of litter and the two boxes in front of me. Moo looked up from his curled up ball on the couch stood up stretched sniffed the boxes and came towards me with his tail straight up. Purring...like a Thank you mom for changing our boxes! and then he hopped on my stomach. Ahhh the healing power of a kitty.

...my back still hurts though. Guess weights at the gym will have to wait for a few days.

It is easy to throw out your back. I once did that just bending over to pick up Speedboat. I hope you recover quickly.

Bending sets mine off, so scooping litter boxes can do it easily. On the days my back is already bad I have to put off scooping - If I get down on the floor it's likely that I won't be able to get back up again.

Does icing your back help any? Maybe try an ice pack and resting in bed for a few hours to see if that settles things a little.

At least they appreciate your effort! I banged my knee on the door yesterday taking the dirty litter out to the bin and got no sympathy whatsoever from my two. Have a lovely bruise today.

Oh hon, I'm sorry! I've tweaked mine more than once cleaning the litter boxes (bulging discs here too), along with unloading the dishwasher, picking up my purse, etc. The strangest things can set them off. There are some stretches that help mine, the best being laying on my back and bending my leg and pulling my knee as close to my chin as I can. It really stretches the back muscles out and and relieves some of the pain. Also, laying on my back with a pillow under the knees helps.

Hope you feel better soon!

Boy I can understand that happening. My back is pretty good but the first box cleaning of the day is always a challenge.

A few months ago I thought I had a great invention.....elevated boxes. I had a drawing of a stand with a box sunk into the top. Litter could be cleaned without having to bend down. It even had a ramp for the cats to use to get up to it.

I was bummed when I saw them on the internet......

Maybe this is an odd suggestion, but for those who's backs are really bad - what about a wagon or cart inside to put and pull the clean and dirty litter (bags, etc) around on?
It won't help the bending, but it could decrease the amount of lifting.

I know but I dont mean too!!! Im waiting on test results to find out why I get so hurt so easily!! I will find out next week the results of the many tests they subjected me too.

LaRussa....

CAT SCAN!!
I acutally said that to my orthopedist when I first met him. in my first appointment for my hips he asked me seriously "Have you ever had a cat scan?" I looked at him and replied. "Yes" he said "Oh? and looked at me. and I said "every morning when my cat wants food!!!"
