Our RB Siamese, Clyde, used to literally climb up our backs to get a pill when we opened the Brewer's Yeast. We never figured out if it was the smell or what but he would eat as many as you'd give him. We never give him more than a 1/4 tablet a day.

BUT he also never had fleas - and he was an inside/outside cat. At the time, we lived in the country and saw one car a day on our road - usually ours!

Someone told me that was because the Brewer's Yeast changed the flavor of his skin and blood and fleas didn't like that flavor!. In a way, it makes sense.

My friend feeds a colony and one of her cats has a horrible flea allergy. Frontline, etc. made it worse, so that's out. I am trying to get her some Capstar but until then - what does everyone think?

(Hmm, I wonder if Capstar has Brewer's Yeast in it? I'll have to look).

Nope - per Capstar.com, it only kills adult fleas. Main ingrediant is nitenpyram, which I am assuming is another poison.

BTW - I am also looking into Diotamaceous Earth (did I spell that right???)

I just googled it and there are many many sites. I would be careful of which site I took my info from.. peteducation.com is on there and it is Foster and Smith site. Prob pretty reliable.

If that is true about the fleas, I may try it. Mine don't go outside except their run. It is 3 feet off the ground, but those nasties can jump!

I think I will still ask the vet.....error on the side of caution.

Diatomaceous earth is good to kill internal parasites and is very safe for your kitty. If the colony of strays are tame enough for her to get some on their bodies that would be even better. Unfortunately they are probably still going to bite but will die a slow death after having contacted the diatomaceous earth. I'd probably still go the capstar route.
