Sorry not clever with titles....

I am hoping that all who are currently dealing with UTI s and crystals could share and continue sharing some info

What age and gender is the cat ? Fixed or not?

Is this the first time?

What is the current food with brand and type if comfortable ?

What was the vet recommendation for treatment short term and long term?

Great idea, I was wondering the other day about this... I hope it isn't food related. (Another recall?)

No UTI here for once... knock wood.

What age and gender is the cat ? Fixed or not? Neutered, ~3 years old. He is a stray that I took in - former owner probably fed him cheap dry and I know he was surviving on trash when I started feeding him.

Is this the first time? Yes

What is the current food with brand and type if comfortable ?
Food wise.. The adults get ~1/4c of Natural Balance Duck and Pea a day, the rest is all wet. I use a mix of wet, affected greatly by what I can actually get. When I can regularly get to the city theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re fed more Natural Balance, Avoderm, the nicer Sophistacat flavors, with some Solid Gold or Wellness cans mixed in depending on sales/coupons at that time. I also use Iamâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s chicken and some Friskies because thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s the best I can get locally (meow mix cups cause diarrhea
).

I feel this was partially brought on by the fact Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve had to use more Iamâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s and Friskies lately - I used some of the fishy Friskies and the ash is high in them. My fault, I know this.
He has eaten this before, though, with no problems.

What was the vet recommendation for treatment short term and long term?Antibiotics, amoxicillin, for two weeks. Two droppers full, twice daily. C/D dry food for now - wet was upon my insistence, since he said it was expensive and most people don't want to pay $1.45 per 5.5 oz can.
Another urinalysis to be repeated in two weeks, or to bring him in sooner if there is signs of him blocking.
Basically we'll go from there based on how Sherman is.

Beeba is a male, neutered. About one and a half years old at time. This is the only time he had them.....so far. The vet did not want to neuter him too early as the "pipe line" for urine is smaller. So we waited till he was about 8 months old. But he still got them.

I attribute them to the fact he was on dry food at the time. After a 3 day vet stay, he came home on s/d wet. Would not touch it if his life depended on it. (It actually did). Switched to s/d dry and he loves it and he was free fed this. Also he has an automatic water dish and he drinks a good deal.

He was on s/d for 3 months, and was switched to c/d for long term. Also free fed. He is doing very well, leaves nice clumps in the box a few times a day. But he will be on c/d until the vet says otherwise. I may in the future, try another urinary food, but not anytime soon and absolutely not without my vets recommendations.

^What was the date that started? I think sharky's curious about all of us having this happening right now - maybe hoping to find a common food link? (I think it's just bad luck)

Sherman is peeing normally again. He just have a nice normal sounding pee 20 minutes ago.

Age and gender: 15 year old neutered male

1st time: Yes

What is the current food with brand and type if comfortable: Was most recently on a mixture of Wellness Core, Kirkland Premium, and Purina One Sensitive Stomach, all dry. Free fed. (have 4 cats, 2 will NOT eat any wet including this guy.) He was recently diagnosed with beginning stages of Kidney disease, so he was taken off the above mixture and just started on Iams Multi-Stage Renal mixed with some Kirkland and Purina One Sensitive Stomach until we can ween him off those last two. He drinks LOTS of water, and still pees large amounts...always has (maybe because we live in the desert!!). The change to K/D food happened about 1 week before his UTI was diagnosed, but he could have had it before then...it took me awhile to get a urine sample to the Vet, as I had no idea he had a UTI until she called me after analyzing the sample to tell me he had it!! We were just trying to get a Specific Gravity for his kidney issues.

What was the vet recommendation for treatment short term and long term? Clavamox for 10 days, along with Pepcid AC. Long Term is to treat the kidney disease, so far with diet only and that's it...we're to watch for signs of dehydration and give Sub-q fluids as needed, but none needed yet. Very early stages (caught during a review of his senior blood panel)

Beeb came down with the crystals just about Thanksgiving of 09. He had been eating Natural Balance Original dry.
