Seriously?? I'm not too familiar with healthcare in the US and that blows my mind!
I live in BC and I pay BC medical $57 (or something like that) per month for my basic medical and then the extended medical (dental, prescriptions and specialists like chiro and massage) is through my work at $90/month
If I added my spouse to my extended medical through work it would add like another $80/month for him but he's covered through his own work right now

It should be noted that we pay high taxes for public health insurance, employer insurance is just for extras like private rooms in hospitals, prescriptions, dental etc)

In Ontario, most of our healthcare costs come from income taxes, then we have the Ontario Health Premium (also a percentage of income) which for me was over $300 last year and I didn't work full time, plus we have a joint health insurance of around $200 per month for extended benefits for us as a couple

Exactly right; health care is never free or cheap, we pay for it one way or another. Both systems have pros and cons: the current U.S. system is good if you or your spouse is working (it's messed up if you're not); Canada's is best if you are unemployed then you can reap the benefits without paying the super-high taxes.

My husbands insurance is paid for life through his retirement. I am on his policy. It cost just under five hundred a month for my coverage. I will be elegible for Medicare this year so my private insurance will go down to three hundred fifty. That is for seventy/thirty coverage. It will cost me a hundred and ten a month for Medicare. I don't know what we will do if the private companies go broke and we are responsible for both our insurances. It is ridiculous what we have to pay just for me.

When Gary and I were on cobra (extended insurance after employer doesn't pay for it anymore), it was $1,024 a month. And that came with a co-pay for everything.

I'd weep if we could find decent coverage for $450 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
