So I have been calling my new cat Teddy... on here. I have yet to actually call him Teddy though. It just does not fit, at all. He is a snuggle butt thought, like a Teddy Bear. Ok, so I am officially throwing that name out and looking for a new one.

He is DLH Brown Tabby w/White and huge.

Here are my names so far:

Calvin
Leo
Sammie
Leon
Corey
Clyde
Loyd

I am not particularly fond of those names yet, but if those were the only names I could pick from I would probably pick Sammie.

I like names that end in "y" or "ie" for whatever reason. Also names that have "o" or "y" in them. Not sure why, those are just the names I like most.

Any suggestions for other names?

Ebby
Forrest (Again, it came to me when I saw his pic.)
Grady
Hemingway (Could be Hemi for short.)
Joey

Tyson (Again, it came to me when looking at his pic.)
Wally

I can probably come up with more
, but I leave you with these for now!

"Woody" comes to mind, especially with his dark coloring! A photo might inspire us!

I like Lohr (pronounced "Lars") and Murph. My aunt had a cat named Murph and I think it's a cute name. Or myaybe his name was actually Murphy, and she called him Murph for short.

One day I will have a big lovely boy kitty, and his name will be Solomon. But I'm guessing that he'll be called "Silly Solly!" a lot of the time.
I'd let you borrow the name for now...

You guys are mind readers for a couple reasons, LOL!

*My last name is Simon. Great cat name, but werid for me to be yelling "Simon." lol.

*Leroy was one of the first names I thought of when I saw him, but someone in my family already has a Leroy... and actually I named him, lol. Leroys brother is Kilroy, lol.

*Annnd he was living in the Woods/Forrest before I took him in.

How do you guys do that, LOL? Too werid.

Love the names so far though! I really like the not-so-common names, those are great.

Here are some pics of him:

Don't mind the greasyness, he is not greasy anymore...

Him and Cody... right before Cody bopped him, lol.

This is why I was going to name him Teddy... he is just a big Teddy Bear.

Keep 'em coming, I love the names so far!

Here are today's installment of names (I'm getting a head start
):

Arwyn (You can call him Ari for short.)
Brady
Chandler
Dakota (I just thought of this after seeing the pics you just posted.)
Emmett
Farley
Gilbert
Henry (Not original, but cute.)
Ichabod (Ichy (pronounced Icky) for short.)
Journey (From his journey from outdoor feral/stray to indoor kitty.)
Kirby
Loki
Mackie
Noah (He just looks like a Noah.)
Ozzie
Paddington (Paddy for short. It's also a teddy-bear!)
Rory
Sullivan (Nickname could be Sully.)
Toby
Vincente (Vinnie.)
Wiley
Yogi
Ziggy

And, by the way, it's so funny that there were so many names that cropped up that struck you as names that were close to your situation. I'll be interested to see if any of these ring a bell.

Murphy
Dakota
Kirby

Hmmm... looks like I will just have to 'try out' some names this week. See what he likes

Hey all,

I dunno what name ur gonna go for in the end...but I wonder if you'd let his personality grow on you for a little while and let the name kinda suggest itself?

The only suggestions I would have...are the names of the characters from the musical Cats...I was initially tempted to name my two after the mischievious pair "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer" but they were a bit of a mouthful...and their personalities deffo suggested their final names "Salem and Shadow".

Do you have any books/movies/TV shows, with a particular character name you are attached to? I always turn to my favorite fictional characters for inspiration. My dog (an attention-hog yellow Lab) is named after a young blond actress who played a model on TV in the late 90s, and the cat...well, she's named after a vampire!

Really though, they do end up naming themselves if you give them some time to make their personalities known. It takes me weeks to give my pets a name, but I always know when I stumble on the right one. Sometimes it's easier to find a name that "fits" when there's a back story and a personality behind that name!

And by the way, he is such a handsome kitty-bear! As is Cody.

Carlos? That name just popped into my head ;]
Storm? This name doesn't really fit with him but he is sort of a dark shade of brown ;]

If I can think of more I'll edit this post ;]

I second that. I'm a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and all my crew have middle names (because 3 our of 4 came to me named) after characters from movies on that show. My two boys are big Maine Coon mixes so they're named after two big lumbering characters - Rowsdower and Mitchell. I let their behavior dictate who they get named after. For example I had my heart set on "Marfruska" (the evil stepsister in "Jack Frost", a Russian take on Cinderella) but I took one look at Chloe and knew she was too small and sweet for that! She wound up being the Cinderella-like Nastenka from the same movie.
