A pair of mourning doves decided that the brick wall of my courtyard was a good place to hang out!

The cats were glad! The birds fluttered back and forth between the maple trees out front and the wall. One of them, I presume the male... kept strutting around. I SWEAR to you he knew the cats were there and he was going, "neener, neener".
Even showed his butt to them.

Tex could hardly contain himself. He wasn't chattering in the traditional sense. He was mooing... and grunting... and squeaking!

Tex is a little cat. Nine pounds. He kept getting up on his hind paws and clawing the window.... going mrrrrrrrrrrrr.... mrrrrrrrrrrrrr! And his tail was twitching like mad.
When he is really agitated, it spins around in a circle like a propeller!!

I am sure he was thinking how yummy mourning dove would taste.

Siri says they're quite delicious.. 2 days before I caught her she left a half eaten mourning dove in my backyard.
I know she did it since she had already claimed my yard as her's and wasn't going very far - plus the neighbors front declawed boys aren't that bright.

And yes, mourning doves love to show off and taunt. I also have a male collared dove that likes to watch me when I'm outside - he'll fly closer just to stare at me. All I can say about that is that wild doves are very odd birds.. They often don't seem to have the sense to be scared of things they should be.

My cats have been enjoying the squawking robins in the front yard. Unlike the neighbors, we don't spray our yard so the birds come to ours to hunt insects. Even Siri, who doesn't like the other cats near her, will shut up and share window space to watch the robins.

My barn cats think they are delicious, too. In some areas, mourning doves are so populous they are a nuisance, but fortunately not as much as their larger bretheren - rats with wings.......er pigeons

We had lots of visitors today even in the pouring rain - a couple of female cardinals, a bunch of sparrows, chickadees and I now presume - a mated mourning dove couple.

I need to get a real feeder with a squirrel baffle on it. Any suggestions?

Important because I saw a squirrel in the tree- he grabbed the seed bell with both front paws and started gnawing on it like a slice of watermelon!

Archie was going crazy at the squirrel... with long, low rrrrrrrrrr's... and running from window to window, tail twitching madly.
