Reading this thread, I think I agree with everyone.

It is probably a mourning process. (Try with Feliway diffuser?). But also a vet check up is in place, I second this.
Best to do both: contact your vet and have a Feliway diffuser.

Your second problem is the financial problems. Im not saying child OR cats. The real problem is stretching your possibilities, and ALSO setting you into dependance and control to your parents.

Now it is done, and I have a feeling you had found a good way out of the present difficulties.

But in the future, my advice is you dont put yourselv inte the same squeeze again. Dont strech your possibilities into absurdum before you are REALLY forced to.

There are a lot of things besides Disney world. It may be a brand new car, a new lawn mover, a better house, whatever.
You could be astonished what some people may do to show up for their neighbours...
You are at least thinking about both your child AND your cats. Some people I know arent....

Good luck!

That was a royal waste of almost $50. He looked at Nuts, felt around, told me his bladder had a lot of urine in it and verified he was able to pee(saw him do it earlier)and declared him fine just mourning the loss of Maude since he was normal in every other way shape or form. He also told me to get him neutered(well yeah I can when I'm not spending over $200 in a one week period on my other cat.) Every time I get the money saved Attitude needs to go to the vet and I have to start over again.

So his advice- Get him neutered. I didn't need to spend $50 to be trold that

Now, you know his health is OK. Before you had only a hopefully guess... Sometimes it costs to have security. And security must cost.

The neutering may perhaps also help against intensive downs... I have a theory unneutered cats can perhaps go into deeper downs.

I remember. Our older boy was alone cat in the beginning. And stud. So he got very friendly with his wifes who visited him, being with us typically 3-6 days.
I remember, he got really depressed when his first wife went back home. It took a couple of weeks before it went over. This learned us he always would see her be fetched, and also we did cleaned thorughly their "bed chamber".

There are many good reasons to neuter. And here we do perhaps have one more.

Meanwhile, try with a Feliway diffuser.
Perhaps some nice music too... Dont need to be calming classical music, CAN be something a little more lively....
. Set up a feeding table for birds outside the window. So he has something to watch. Do you have a balcony? Set a net around the balcony, so he can be on that balcony. Much to watch, and hear sounds and feel smells... Verry exciting!

Good luck!

As far as neuters, can you take him to St Louis?

You can buy a low cost neuter certificate for the same as you spent today from http://www.friendsofanimals.org/
They have a participating clinic it says is within 30 miles (I used the zip for the municipal offices there):
ST LOUIS PET CLINIC, ST LOUIS, MO 63104
The Friends of Animals certificate covers the cost of a routine spay/neuter procedure including a cursory (not full) surgical pre-exam, anesthesia, surgical procedure, waste disposal, day of surgery post-operative care and pain-relief, hospitalization as required, and stitch removal if necessary.

I am not sure how far this one is from you, but its really cheap

Oh, I'm so glad Nuts is okay. I am sorry you see the vet trip as a waste. I do not. Would you really have wanted to spend your entire vacation worrying about whether Nuts is okay or not? That's no way to have fun, surely.

Now you know he is okay, but I do agree that the fact that he is intact may have something to do with his apparent unhappiness. Yes I am sure he misses Maud but at 9 months old his hormones are in full swing, and that is bound to make things worse for him.

I understand you have spent a lot on Attitude recently. I know how overwhelming vet bills can get. But you did the right thing taking him in today. If you weren't worried you would not have come to us for help. We gave our advice and you followed it, which I think we are all very proud of you for doing so.

Now you have peace of mind.

Hope you can get him neutered very soon, it will help things enormously.

I know, I am relieved that Nuts is ok and that I can go and not have to worry about him. He's 10 lbs 1 oz so he's packing on weight but it fits his body.

We only have one unspayed female(and she's outside) and as I said she goes in April 7 and I think she's pregnant but either way she's not in heat, the other 3(Attitude, Mama and Biter are all spayed) Maude was also spayed. So his last up close and personal with an unspayed female was when Attitude went into heat at 5 months old.

He got home and he peed for about 3 minutes straight.

I do trust the vet, he was the original one. The one who put my puppy Tippy(German Shepard mix) to sleep in 1984 because he had parvo and put Abby to sleep(pure bred Old English sheepdog) in 2006 when her liver or spleen burst. For some reason I had no problem with him just doing a hands on exam and not doing anything else. But all he would say was he needed to be neutered, yeah I know that, if you would have listened to me 2 seconds before and 2 seconds before that I just told you every time I have the money Attitude gets sick and I end up spending all the money getting whatever is wrong with her fixed. I spent over $200 over a period of literally 7 days when she had mastitis, the antibiotics, the fortiflora for the diarrhea, the Viralys to clear her never ending eye infection, not to mention the 2 exam fees. She rarely has something quick and easy and cheap to fix since I gave up on the never ending eye infection which appears to be responding to the Lysine.

I want my vet to do it and not the low cost people, who will do it for $5 but I value Nuts more than that and I want him to have pre-anesthesia blood work and fluids to be given when he is neutered. It just makes me feel better that I 'know' he will be ok.

It wasn't about the vet visit, it was frustration at every thing else. Paul and I go to get Bobby from school I go in and when I get out I have a flat tire. It just went from there, the jack is missing, the spare is also flat, having to call my dad to come get Bobby and I so Bobby can get home and I can get a working car to get Nuts to the vet(I had already called and told them I was going to be late and why) and get my spare aired up. It just got better from there. It had nothing to do with Nuts or the vet appointment I was deflecting my anger at my stupid car and it's stupid tire on an unfair target who didn't deserve it.

Gotta go, need to tidy up friends coming over.

Oh, 9 months, unneutered, and meowing a lot which he didnt do earlier??

It may very well be the hormones. he got adult you know. Male cats do sound and meows much. Both more often and much stronger than neutered.
I know, our boys father and son were both studs.

How is it with his urine smells? I guess it got much stronger some short time ago?

So it is a combination of his mourning, AND his becoming biologically a tom...

So the receipt is essentially the same, but the urge for neutering bigger.

Unless of course you do REALLY want to have som stud services with him.

He has feline leukemia, so he couldn't stud if I wanted him to.

His pee has never been strong or have any odor to it that I have ever noticed.

All I have heard tonight is silence, figures, I take him to the vet and suddenly he doesn't do it anymore. Figures, the car always quits making the noise when you go to the mechanic.

I have been up for over 24 hours and I can't get to sleep but I better try. I exhausted but my body won't let me calm down. I just remember all the stuff in the dryer that I have to get packed, packing my bras as soon as they are done air-drying in the bathroom(you don't use a clothes dryer to dry bras.) I am just so freaking worn out and what has been going on with Nuts just really drove me over the edge. I didn't get a nap since I ran from one place to another all damn day.

I just think I need some sleep and then my brain will unfog. This is why my posts might have not made sense or misrepresented how I felt about all of this. Normally my posts aren't like this, they at least make sense, and aren't all over the board with what I'm trying to say in case you haven't noticed.

It's tough for anyone when they're under as much stress and conflicting responsibilities as you've been - here's good wishes for a safe and fun trip, and to come home feeling better. But, what a day you had - and of course he stopped making noise as soon as you got him home.

Also hoping things work out so you can get him neutered soon.

I'd just like to offer my
and tell you this: I'm glad your kitty will be okay (eventually, upon neutering), I think folks may have been a tiny bit hard on you with their responses to this thread, and I hope you have a wonderful trip with your little boy.

I fully understand everything you said about the financial difficulties. Be safe.
