I am by NO means a breeder. But I have feral kitty snowwhite that had three babies about 13 weeks ago. She hasn't nursed at all in maybe two or three weeks. Well now i'm taking care of another kitty that is being a horrible mother. if I put these babies with snowwhite would she make milk again? We saved two kittens when snowwhite had her babies and she took care of them like they were her own, but now that her milk is away I'm not sure if she can start making it again??

What do you think??

I know it's possible for a woman who has never had a baby to produce milk, it's called "induced lactation" it's also possible for a woman who has had a child & who's milk has dried up (because she stopped breast feeding) to produce milk again, that's called "re-lactation". But in both cases, I believe a lot of hard work has to go into getting an established milk supply, and in the case of the mother who has never had children, her milk supply will never be the same as that of a mother who has given birth.

That said, I have a friend who had a dog. She adopted a very young kitten, and the dog (who had NEVER had a litter) started lactating.

It's worth a shot.

Julia.

I am a breeder and think it will be difficult - 13 weeks old kittens are a lot different to tiny babies - most mum cats have moved on. My girls will share their toddlers but I have never successfuly got a girl with an older litter to take youngsters - they will like them but jump out quickly when they try to nurse.

BUT having said all that as julia said give it a try.

the kittens passed away

Snowwhite licked them and actually did try to let them nurse and they tried to nurse alittle but then she pushed them away. I guess she knew they were sick too
