19 year old cat-think is dying

Brittany's 19 and just went throught a UTI. With advice from this forum and the vet, she got a bit better but now is going downhill fast. Stopped eating and drinking again, can't meow, can't stand up, looks disoriented, and breathing different. We've tried every trick we learned on this forum and tried many other things.

The vet said she does not think Brittany "will rally again" and to "just let her go on with the process." She does not seem to be sufferring but is ultra weak.
I don't know much about this but my instinct is that the vet is right.

We know someone, a medical person, that can give her a saline shot in hopes that it will give her another chance.

My questions are:

1. Will giving her the shot be another "insult" to her like all the Clavamox, fish oil, B+K, water, etc. we've squirted down her throat in the last week ?

2. Should we just let her drift away ?

It's 4:03 now and the person with the saline shot will be there at 4:45.

It sounds like she will not last the day.
You can try fluids and see if they help.
I would not let her suffer though.

After asking, I decided to try the shot so long as it can be done gently and quietly. Just want to try.

I would do the same thing.
I have a 18 year old cat that has many problems.

i don't think the fluids can do anything other than make her more comfortable and hydrated.

(((hugs))) not knowing when to keep pushing or just let him go in peace was the hardest part for me when we lost our gilly to FIP. for your sweet old girl.

I don't think it could do her any harm to try the hydration shot--it's such a small simple thing and even if it doesn't help her much, at least that way you won't have to wonder if you should have tried.

Other than that, if you're out of ideas and the vet's out of ideas, it sounds like time to make her comfortable and let her go

I feel very bad for you and your kitty. Annie was 19 and going through the same thing a few years ago - constant UTI's. I'm really sorry you all are going through this.

I have a 20 year old cat that twice in the last year I thought she was going, but really it was just that she is so skinny that she gets weak easily. Both times fluids made her feel much better and rallied back quickly.

What happened after the fluids today? I hope she is getting better.

I thought the fellow who offerred the fluids shot was going to visit but we had to take her to him. After driving 1/2 hour we came to a bumpy dirt road that I didn't want to drive down. I thought it might bother or hurt her. We called and he came and met us. He said there was no point in trying to save her so we put her where she enjoyed resting. She slept and seemed comfortable. I found her at 4:17 this morning. I am at work and trying to act like this a normal day but it isn't. Six and a half hours from now I can leave.
