I can't seem to delete this post, so I am just going to ask a simpler question. When should my cats be getting fed. I feed them twice a day with the LeBistro automatic pet feeders. How far apart should the two feedings be? Thanks!

well there is not set methods but many cats like to eat several times per day, small amounts each feeding. My cats are free feeders and eat when they get hungry. I have friends who feed their cats in the morning and then at night. I think cats adapt quite well to whatever

Like the other poster has said, there really is no set time that everyone must feed their cats. Instead, where I've been concerned, it's been a process. I used to free feed when the cats were younger, but have since graduated from free-feeding to a more structured approach. For everyone (and everyone's cats) structure seems to be highly variable. So, my first suggestion would be to consider whether or now what you're doing now is working or if you do, in fact, need to move to a different method of feeding. If it working, there's a nice quote I like to use: if it ain't broke, it don't need fixin'.

For me, I feed my cats on a schedule. It's not exact because life gets in the way, but it is what's working for me and my cats. My cats are fed an approximately 75%/25% split of wet and dry food. And, as an example, this is how I feed my adult cats (my kitten gets fed more both where quantity and time is concerned):

I feed each of my adult cats 2 ounces of wet food in the morning when I first get up. They each then get another 2 ounces of food in the afternoon. And, in the evening they each get another ounce of wet food along with 1/8 or 1/4 cup of their dry food (how much they get depends on the cat). I do feed a grain-free dry to all of my cats and grain-free wet to one of my adults (the others won't eat grain-free wet regularly), but that's neither here nor there. They get fed approximately when I feed myself. It varies some from day-to-day, but it is what I've found to work best for us.

Is there a specific reason why you're feeling as though what you're doing now is not working? Perhaps if we had more information, we'd be able to help more. Regardless, good luck and feel free to ask more questions should you have them.

I also schedule feed my cats. At our house I feed the cats 3 times a day - approximately 8 hours apart.

Since you are feeding 2 times a day I recommend scheduling that 12 hours apart.

As others have said, do what works for you. I can't do scheduled feedings because of my crazy work schedule. There would be days when the cats got their meals about 6 hours apart, followed by 14-16 hours with nothing. I feed one wet snack, approximately 1 oz. per cat, some time between 5:30 and 10:00 PM. The rest of the time I free feed a measured amount of dry food.

Is the LeBistro a feeder that releases the food on a timer? If so, I would set it to feed either twice a day 12 hours apart or 3 times a day 8 hours apart. A lot depends on your cats. How old are they? Do they eat everything at once or keep coming back for a little at a time? How old are they?

My Chester Cheetah gets fed twice a day a certain amount but he grazes on it between feedings. He gets about 1/4cup twice a day. Every cat is different, whatever works for you that keeps your cats at their best.

My two kitties get fed with the Le Bistro feeder too. They were getting 2 serves twice a day, at 6am and 6pm (I think one serve of LeBistro is maybe 1/3 cup??). That was too much, so now they get 1 serve 3 times a day at 6am, 1pm and 8pm.
