Haha,I just gave catnip to my girls for the first time ever.Man they loved the stuff! Went nuts for it,rolling in it and their pupils were so dilated...no pictures as my camera is not working right.

I was holding the bag and Berlin came and shoved her whole head in it and was inhaling it!

Anja became a little mean on it though...normally she is a very sweet, affectionate cat,but when she was high on the stuff she attacked Berlin a few times and even started attacking my foot (she never done that before).

My Osiris gets a little agressive on nip as well and he is usually the sweetest, most loving cat. It is always amusing to watch high kitties!

I know.It is very amusing.

I have a question...is catnip bad for our kitties?
Two people tonight told me it was.But I have NEVER seen any ill effects on any of the cats I ever known who liked catnip!

I've never heard it was bad for cats, but like anything, use in moderation. My cats are unaffected by the stuff, in fact, Da Lip treats it with suspicion and Da Magpie ignores it.

I do have a couple of barn cats that are enthralled with the alfalfa in the hay field - they love rolling in it after it is cut, and come up to the house smelling like a bale of hay. They also love sleeping in pure alfalfa hay, and I just cannot figure that out, unless it is just that sweet spicey smell

Your post made me smile
.

My kitties love catnip. They have always had catnip toys and I've sprinkled nip on their cat trees, scratchers, and some of their beds. I have only recently discovered that they get really excited when they see the catnip tub come out -- they nearly fall over one another trying to get to me! But, what they really love are a number of toys I purchased from a member here. Can we say addicted?!

My females tend to writhe around in the nip and get all lovey-dovey. Emory eats the stuff, which I've never understood, but she sure does love it! The only one that gets a little aggressive is my male kitten, Finn. He's only just started to recognize catnip and find it enjoyable, but, man, does he get frisky once he's been given it! He usually tramples all over the girls and then run laps around the house, but he's generally harmless. In his case, his aggression is more like additional cattitude with a side of play. But, they all love it. And, when used with moderation, there's no harm in them getting a little "high."

But, I have noticed they act a lot more hungry on days they get it and, boy, they sleep well at night
. Like I said, win-win for all!

Yeah I didn't think it was bad for them, seeing as I never had problems.
However I know some people are against the stuff.

Haha Alison, sounds like you have some catnip lovin' kitties too.
A good thing about catnip (for a cat's point of view) is it is legal!
