Spooky is 12 years old. He has been overweight for a long time. I have attempted to deal with it by encouraging him to exercise and changing feeding, but to no avail. Now he is acting like he hurts all over. He squeals when I pick him up. He won't even attempt to jump off the counter, where his food is. I keep a chair there to make it easier for him, but lately if I don't lift him down he is pretty much stranded up there. I am not sure if this is severe arthritis excaberated by his weight or something more serious. I guess a trip to the vet is in order. I just wanted to share my worry I guess. Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry to hear of your beloved Spooky's problems. yes, by all means do get him in for a check up.

Your vet should do a senior blood panel, and a urinalysis. He may be suffering from arthritis, and there are drug free supplements (cosequin for cats) which can help him with that.

Please get him seen as soon as you can. The earlier problems are found and treatment started, the better they are treatable. And knowing what's going on will give you peace of mind, too.

Please keep us posted on Spooky.
