How can I know it a female cat is fixed or not? - Page 2

did the vet determine her approximate age, or are you figuring it?
i ask because my Java [also calico] was around 3.5 months old when i found her [parking lot]. she was also clean, no fleas, super friendly [still is!] - & unspayed [which i assumed, but was right]. she was spayed after her 1st heat because she surprised me! [i think she was about 5 months old, then]. none of mine stayed overnight - but i did keep them secluded until the sedative had worn off.

I get that you are worried about a possible second surgery because of Yettina, but it sounds like either a bad vet or she was not wearing an ecollar or supervised and ripped out her stitches - certainly not the norm. The shelter has opened up cats to find they are spayed and non had complications

Taryn have you reported this woman to the authorities? Did you know she could spend time in jail for animal cruelty?

Just want to add sorry you have been having such a tough time. *hugs*

Her animals get to the end point too quickly for us to call in the humane society and have any hope of them not putting her animals to sleep. Like I said the 2 Mitzi rescued took over 6 months to even get in good enough shape for the rescue to put them up for adoption. It's like she feeds them for a short period of time then stops, at least with the dogs. The cat was a different story, she was only not thin when she was pregnant and that was because she was full of babies.

It's better to just keep rescuing them as needed rather than pull the humane society in, they won't do anything to her anyways.

She will get hers if any of her current dogs starts going down. We'd have to call them in if the min pin gets bad since he won't let anyone near him.

Right now everything is 'fine', the cat is dead and her dogs are good body weight. Now if the dogs stay in that shape who knows.

I just hate what she's teaching her children. Her 2 older ones did something to my outside cats, I was out with them one day and the kids walked by and they all freaked out and ran like their life depended on it. They never run like that from anyone. Mama doesn't even run like that from Mitzi(who took her in to get spayed) she will walk the other direction and avoid her but not run. It's weird, like I said with the dogs it's like she takes care of them for a while and then stops and by the time you see how bad the dogs are it's better for Mitzi to get them and get them to the rescue and be rehabbed, rather than call in the humane society and have them put down.

It's complicated and hard to explain. The humane society around here just doesn't care and that only makes it more complicated.

Boys have nipples too, all of mine do!

I understand he didn't survive, and I don´t or can't understand how on earth that could happen. I'm nearly completely sure we are talking about the very same place.

The hospital I'm using since 2007 is:

All Pets Hospital for Animals
118 Cedar Creek Rd
Fayetteville, NC 28312
Call Now: 910-420-0924

I think they are good especially because they give house calls and that reduces by far the stress to my cats.
I am pretty sure that we are talking about the same place, almost every vet in the phone book has that place as the 24hr emergency number. They are only for emergencies, they are only open from like 5pm-8am or something like that. That is crazy about the dog jumping out of their transportation! That is aweful.

I had to wait 2 hrs while they were chatting with the owners of a dog that was being released and my cat was in serious pain with a complete urinary blockage. One of the vet techs was trying to tell me that my cat was not sick... They got 125 CCs of urine off of him, even the cooky vet was amazed at that. My cat could have had a seizuer or died from waiting that long. I overheard the vet tech (she was loud and in the same room) telling 2 different callers that they will not take animals if you cannot pay for the treatment, they do not do payments. She kept telling them to "apply for care credit." I doubt I would be online appling for credit if I had a crisis with my pets!

I have never heard of your vet, I will keep them in mind in case something happens and I need a new one. First vet I have heard of locally that does house calls, heaven forbid that any of my cats have to be pts I will deff call your vet for a house call.

I would just call them and ask why they keep the cat for 3 days and ask if they can/will release your cat on the same day. Maybe there was a misunderstanding somewhere? Good luck!

I know boys have nipples but something just told me something wasn't right(I had that feeling in my gut about him possibly being a her) so I made her sit still so I could check her and sure enough I had a female.

Like I said I don't blame the vet, everyone makes mistakes, especially trying to examine a squirming 6-8 week old kitten with long fur covering the area that needs to be examined. You almost need 4 arms to do it since she does not cooperate. I have her and got her fixed so there was no harm done.

Just reminded me, if some low cost spay/neuter won't take her I'm prolly going to end up with more unwanted kittens and a dead cat(she is way too small to have a safe pregnancy.) For some reason they are all doing only shelter cats and she went into heat and I know all 3 of my males(which includes 2 of her brothers) most likely nailed her. I know Goldie Jr did and her and Blue(the only one not related to everyone else) were a little too cozy when she was in heat. I don't want or need any more dang cats. My 2 inside and 6 outside are way more than enough and are really too many.

Attitude and Nuts don't leave the house unless I have them on a harness. No one else here cares about cats so it all comes down to me and my boyfriend to take care of them(even though our neighbor Mitzi will help pay to get the females spayed.) The witch(remove the w and replace with a b) up the street gets animals for some unknown reason and then won't feed or take care of them(Mitzi has already had to rescue 2 of her half dead starving dogs and it took a rescue over 6 months to get them into shape enough to even be offered for adoption.) I was half tempted to grab her starving Siamese and get her spayed, but I couldn't because she was an 'owned' animal(even if her owner was a total deadbeat and never took care of her.) She thankfully died after having her 3rd litter of the summer, none of the kittens from her first 2 litters survived. I would know they all come here to eat. Her death was a good thing since it was the end of her suffering. My cats hated her and chased her off any chance they got. The last time I saw her was after she gave birth and my 2 females, Mama and Biter were chasing her off because she was across the street so she never really got enough to eat even when I tried to feed her. She refused to get along with them so they wanted nothing to do with her. She almost got attacked after trying to go after Mama's kitten. All 3 females came running ready to rip her to shreds. Even the rest of the kittens despised her, every time she came around Nuts would arch his back puff up and hiss at her. Kind of funny to see a 4 week old kitten doing that. They all accepted Blue no problem, he just showed up one day and decided to stay and the others didn't care. Hell, if I wasn't certain she had leukemia(and was most likely the source of it being endemic here, everyone has it) I would have shuttled her off to the rescue Mitzi used for the dogs. Woman didn't even care when the dogs disappeared. I hate her(and yes I mean HATE, and I don't normally hate anyone) for her mistreatment of her animals. She has a little min-pin or something like that and a pit, and I think she has a black cat. I just don't know why she keeps getting animals when she doesn't take care of them and doesn't even FEED them. I mean it isn't that expensive to get animal food, I mean feeding them crap is better than totally not feeding them.

I just hope once I get Half tail done that no one else dumps any more females(or males for that matter, I'm sick of new cats), once she is done all the females will be fixed. Runt, Goldie Jr and Blue are the only males I know of and we can't afford to get them done. They aren't my cats voluntarily, they got dumped on us, well Mama got dumped and the population went from there and Blue was dumped as well. Both know what a litter box is and it's proper use, when I had Mama inside after her prolapse she used the litter box exclusively until she decided she had had enough of being inside and let herself out after a week. She likes it here just only outside, none except Blue(he let himself in one day when him and Nuts were getting acquainted and didn't freak when the door closed and doesn't mind being picked up) have ever been comfortable inside. Biter and Goldie were from the resident male at the time a fat grey tabby that got run over and killed, so the next resident tom we had was a black and white tom(who was dumped here one day) who got Mama, Goldie, Biter(plus Callie and the damn Siamese) pregnant and from Mama, Biter, Goldie and Callie we ended up with 15 living kittens(including Attitude, Nuts, Runt, Half tail, Goldie Jr.) He has now disappeared(he didn't show up to 'service' Half tail when she went into heat) so he didn't survive the winter. Now there are Runt, Blue and Goldie Jr and they are all males and Half tail is last intact female I know of. Attitude and Nuts have had full vet care(Attitude is spayed and Nuts will be neutered as soon as I can afford it Attitude always seems to eat that money by needing to go the vet for something, stupid cat), I wanted them and they are 'voluntarily' mine(well they showed up at 4 weeks old when their mother decided to move them all in under our shed) and I could afford them. They all stayed outside until 12+ weeks so I didn't take them too soon from their mothers.

If I get one more dumped cat I swear I am going to hunt down the owner and I don't know what I'll do but it will prolly be bloody. I don't want any more cats. Yes, kittens are cute but I don't need any more mouths too feed I already spend too much on cat food. I also don't need any more cats to fix.

Sorry got off topic with my rant it just makes me mad. I get all these cats dumped on me and I have to be the one to take care of them.

Seriously ask your vet why she needs to stay for 3 days. I think she'd recover a lot better at home than in a vet's office and besides I'd rather my cat get home quickly and greatly reduce the risk of them bringing back fleas(the gift that keeps on giving), not to mention to just be home to recover. I hated being hospitalized for 3 days after having my son and I was glad when my gallbladder was ripped out I could go home the same day, I feel much more comfortable at home and I'd imagine pets feel the same way. My vet only keeps them overnight if the owner can't drop them off the next morning due to work(or whatever) or can't pick them up that night, due to work(or whatever) or there are complications and that's just overnight. Out of all the fixed animals I have dealt with I have yet to have one 'split open', I know it happens but it's really rather rare if the vet knows what the heck they are doing.

Taryn
Sorry for the post delay...

I know how you feel, I am too surrounded by irresponsible people who don´t care about their animals, or animals. The neighbour who lives directly in front of me, for example, has an old dog that has some kind of crippling condition, he is like rigid in all his movements, maybe because of some kind of arthritis. Although they do have Vet help they still let the poor dog out in cold days and nights and he is mostly wandering alone around cars and traffic even if he can barely walk.
I have to make an effort not to go around angry all day long because of all the animal cruelty that surrounds me. As I've said before I do as much as I can to help but it´s never enough.
Thank you for all you have been able to do! The world needs more people like you!
Cheers!

Yeah! let me talk to me Vet again! She'll be here next Thursday. Maybe she can give me a direct number to get to her because I've always reached her directly at that clinic. Although she works there she is also free-lance. I can´t give you a complete name because I only know her as Dr. Lillian.

I'll get her complete name and phone number and I'll post it here or I'll PM you.

So your cat had a complete urinary blockage! That's terrible! one of the cats I've been closest to "Hocus Pocus" has that terrible condition since he was three and he lived with that for the rest of his life, he lived to be ten!

I just wanted to chime in that 3 days seems REALLY long.

Our vet keeps them overnight. They have 24-hour care. I really love my vet.

However, I do have to take Rosalita tomorrow to get her stitches out. I could have sworn that 10 years ago when I spayed Oreo, they just disolved?
Mine all had dissolving stitches.
Cleo was done in North Carolina before I got her and the others were done here.
3 days seems long to me, too. But the OP seems to like and trust their vet and has used them for years.

Mine get regular stitches on the outside. There's no cost to get the stitches out or if the cat has to come back in for anything - such as an incision infection (aside from med I'm sent home with). None of my female cats have ever picked/licked at them. My poor little girl Blasa wouldn't even lick around them because she didn't like getting her tongue pricked on the stitches - it was actually amusing to watch her face when first she tried.

About her age: I figured it out just by experience with other cats I guess, nothing exact obviously. She already has all her permanent teeth but she is still very small in size.
As I said before, she is due to be fixed next Thursday, the problem is I'm beginning to notice signs that she may be beginning to be in heat; she is too sweet and is squirming all around among other things. My other female cat ( one and a half year old and fixed) was smelling her behind just a few minutes ago and then got very angry at her. She even hit her very hard with a cat-boxing manner.
The vet might charge a little extra since she is in heat. She may go back out of heat before then though. It's going to be a long week for you, LOL, cats in heat drive me crazy.
