Just a stupid question

After I paint my nails, does the dry polish pose any danger to my cat when I scratch her back (or if she bites at my fingers)?

Sorry, stupid question....surely it is harmless...I just wonder with all the chemicals in the polish....

The wet polish would be bad. But mostly, the harmful chemicals evaporate as the polish dries, leaving behind a fairly inert plastic-like material.

Stop and think: If it was harmful, would they put it in your polish, which you put on your nails, which you touch your food with and which you might ingest if you chew your nails?

Only if she's ingesting the chipped paint. Simply keeping your nail polish in good shape will prevent that.

I don't think even the chipped polish would be a problem.

Would you want to eat it? There's a reason why people who prepare food aren't allowed to wear nail polish unless they wear gloves. It may not cause serious harm, but it's not intended to be eaten.

Interesting fact. No one at the local pet food plant is allowed to wear any nail polish. I assume there's a reason for this.

I've eaten a ton of chipped nail polish over my entire life but I'm a human, and I definitely wouldn't let my cats near wet or dry chipped. Their little bodies handle all kinds of things so differently than ours. But I do not see how dry nail polish on nails would harm a kitty just for being given scritches and loves
