Well, I wasn't on the market for a new cat but you all know how that goes!

Apparently we have a couple ferals at our new house so I set the trap to catch them for TNR. I was really hoping to catch this tom I keep seeing who is missing an entire ear... Haven't caught him yet, still trying. What I DID catch was a very matted and skittish longhaired tom.
At first I thought he had fur similar to a sheep... he was that matted.

We have 4 neighbors and none are missing a cat. I am guessing that the people who use to live at this house left their cat when they moved.

Here is the real kicker... no one has lived in this house for 4+ yrs. So either someone dumped him, or he has been living here for years after his former people moved out.

Anyway, he is really beat up. Something scratched him up all over, even on his face but he is healing nicely. He is going to be a work in progress for a while, he has attempted to nip at me a couple times when I was brushing him. He had SO many mats. I had to cut off hand fulls of mats, and he STILL has mats because he will not let me mess with his tummy. He is a sweatheart though, he loves kisses and sitting on my lap.

Right now he is seperated until Friday when he gets the snip-snip and tested.

I think his name will be Teddy as in Teddy Bear, he is HUGE compared to my cats. Not just the fur, he has MONSTER paws, lol.

Here he is:

*I had him & his crate on the back porch until it got chilly here. Now he is set up in the laundery room which he hates. He doesn't understand being indoors and tries really hard to get outside, over time he will be satisfied being indoors though.

**He is making a face because of the flash, this pic makes him look mean. He isn't mean. He is a gentle giant... until you mess with his tummy or feet.

***My plan to get rid of the mats on his tummy: let the vet do it while he is asleep for his neuter. Then I will work on getting him to trust me with his tummy, lol.

He is beautiful. Do you think he is part Maine Coon? Sounds like you have given everything a lot of thought and have it all worked out.

Awww, KK! Glad you could help the guy. Yeah, he will come around to thinking inside is good when he realizes he is safe, has a comfy place to sleep and food available. Oh yes,,, and a human slave. LOL!

Back from the vet, he is negavite for aids & leuk!
He will be in surgery sometime between now & 2pm for neuter. I am trying not to worry.
He was REALLY good at the vets, I was worried that he may bite or go nuts.

I will start intros either today or tomorrow depending on how he feels. Oh, he scratched his face up pretty badly last night on the crate from trying to get out. Now he looks even more like a "certified Ally Cat."
I gathered up enough courage to wash him last night, he was NOT impressed! But I didn't get scratched/bit. I had to hold his scruff the entire time to prevent him from scratching me, lol. He will not let me clip his nails yet, we will work on that later though.

After I washed him I figured "well if I can WASH him then surely I can comb the mats on his tummy." So I strugged for a while trying to comb his tummy while he was doing 'pretty kitty'
on his back... but he kept grabbing the comb and trying to kill it.
No way I was going to take him to the vet with mats, he already looks bad enough. So I said 'what the heck, I will just have to get bit' and I scruffed him so that only his back legs were touching the floor and held him so that I could get to his belly. I managed to cut/brush the mats out in between him trying to bunny kick me, LOL.
I didn't get bit, whoo hoo!

He may be a little 'rough around the edges' but I love him to pieces already. We will work with the grooming issues, and through time he will be ok with it. I can not wait until his fur grows back (had to cut mats out) and he gains some weight.

He could be, I looked at pics of Main Coons and their ears look like they are set further apart but you never know.

Aw, thanks! He is pretty lucky, if I find any more kitties besides the ferals (I am TNRing them) I will have to find them new homes, I am at my limit. So he is the last addtition for a while, lol.

He is a kinda odd cat... very timid but once he knows you are not going to hurt him he is VERY lovey-dovey! He seems to have seperation anxiety too, he is that clingy.

He trys to shove his big head under the door, trying to get outside. It's obvious that he had never been inside and thinks that he is supposed to be outside. He does like the aspect of having a human slave, LOL. He will come around, I think a major part of it is that I have him in the laundry room and he is lonely. After intros are over and he gets to be with me & the other cats all day, he should come around.

Thanks everyone!

The neuter went fine. He is greasy though, everytime I get a boy neutered they come back greasy. I think it's something they clean the cages with, I don't know. I don't want to wash him for a while, anyone know how to de-grease a longhair without washing them?

He met the other cats today... and HE was fantastic about it, he was calling to them, purring, and trilling but all of them hissed at him, LOL. He doesn't understand why they don't love him, he looked heartbroken every time one of them hissed.

About to upload a couple pics.

Poor little guy ...... he seems like he is trusting you, so he was just out there with the ferals trying to fend for himself. That is so sad. Thank you for helping him. (and the ferals, too)

I bet he feels so much better with the mats cut out

You can take a little white vinegar and water on a wash cloth and it will cut the grease. Then you can add some vanilla extract to his chin until the vinegar smell goes away. Hes so beautiful and so lucky

He does trust me, but he is timid too. The littlest sound makes him go hide. I let him walk around the house for the first time today, and he didn't do the normal sniffing and investigating... he seems like he already knows the house, he went straight across the house, into the kitchen and begged at the door to go outside. So it's pretty obvious to me that whoever lived here before moved out and left him.

He isn't trying to get outside as bad as he was before, I bet the nueter is going to help a lot.

I didn't know about the vinegar, I will have to try that. Thanks!

Here are some better pics:

Here he is meeting my other cats for the first time, the leash was for if they started fighting.

Pretty kitty pose.

Bella smelling his tail, LOL. He didn't notice...

Aww look at him in your lap

Yea it sounds like he lived there before : (
So he found his home again but just has a few more houseguests than before

Hes so beautiful .... looking at his injuries makes me so upset that someone would just leave him. He has no idea how much his world will change now

Aw, thanks.

He spend most of today with my cats, it went very well. Everyone hisses and growls at him still, when he walks across the room someone growls, LOL. He even tried to snuggle with Cody, who was NOT impressed and bopped him on the head once. He just backed up a foot and sulked,

I think I will seperate him before I go to bed, I don't want to wake up to a cat fight. In the morning I will put him back with the cats.

Here are a few pics from a couple hrs ago:

Bully. lol

Headstand! LOL.

They were daring him to get near them... growling.

My children are so mean, lol!
