Do any cats actually like these things? I bought them once because they were supposed to be good for cat breath (Chilsa had a habit of yawning in my face), and none of the cats would touch them. The shelter gave us a couple packs of samples, and I opened one up and put the treats in a little pile next to their food; the pile's still there and I think I'm going to end up throwing them away. I asked some people we know, who have 8 or so cats (I think...some of them are skitty so I don't know them all yet) and give them treats regularly, if they wanted the other pack. As it turns out, none of their cats keep Greenies either.

Do we just have a strange group of cats, or is it a miracle that these things are still in business?

I have never heard of Greenies until I read about its dental benefits on this board. I went to my pet store and bought a small bag about two weeks ago (it's quite expensive for a small bag). My cat had a few the first day I got it, but after that, he sniffs it and turns his head. I tried putting it in his mouth, but he just lets it fall out. Now, he walks away. I have given up on it.

The bag is still full. I brush my cat's teeth regularly so I'm not too concerned. He really doesn't like dry treats at all, so I was hoping this might be it.

Three of mine like them, Bumper won't touch them and I don't think we have bought them since we have had Quincy

I have seen ferals and strays who are usually starving and will eat anything turn their noses up at them so there is definitely cats that just don't like them

Sho is the only cat I've seen who would eat them and he does not chew them.

lola tries to eat these. she gets one in her mouth, then lets it drop out and stares at it with a confused look
i think the size and hardness is more than she can handle. she's a Temptations girl.

marvin, on the other hand, loves the greenies (the oven roasted chicken flavor, anyway). they're his favorite treat.

Mine absolutely adore them! But, have to be careful with the number, as with mine it seems to loosen the bowels a bit if they get more than the bag recommends - and my guy is on CD food, so really shouldn't be getting treats anyway, so it's a once in a blue moon treat now. But, honestly, when I have offered one or two, they'll come racing over!

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I dont give Greenies to any of my pets. Too many risks involved with them. I never tried with the cats but after reading that if your dog doesnt chew them properly they can become lodged in their intestines and cause blockage I stopped giving Franklin them. He is a massive chewer but being such a small dog it just made me too paraniod. I never bothered with dry treats for the cats either because the 2 that eat treats only eat moist ones.

I purchased them at City Vet. Its a vet clinic attached to a food store, that is also attached to a doggie daycare. The pkg does say "Available only at your veterinarian" When I looked them up online for ingredients I noticed you could only buy10-20packs at a time! Maybe vets can order upon cust. request?

Greenies have a bad rep, but as was said, I beleive they've changed their formula.

c.e.t. (Virbac) makes treats that help keep a cat's breath fresh and teeth clean. If I was going for dental treats that's what I would use, because I trust that company, and know their products work.

I brush their teeth though (with c.e.t. tooothpaste, what else?
), and no commercial treats in this household.

Hmmm. Interesting thread. A friend of mine in the building mentioned yesterday that his dog had been overnight at the vet for days (this was about a month ago) and it was because of Greenies. I was horrified! I bought a bag once a long time ago, for Larry, and he liked them, but then Larry will eat anything. I never bought them again because they were too expensive.

Greenies used to be the ONLY treat I could find that Holland would eat. I've given at least 5 bags of treats to my SIL for her cat after Holland turned up her nose. Santa (my mom) gave Holland a bag of treats for Christmas that she loved, but I can't remember what they were. Right now she has Hartz dental clean (I think), which is ironic since she's got no teeth! I bought her a bag of soft treats after her dental surgery, but she wanted nothing to do with them - went right to my SIL.

Has it changed in the past year? Basically I got Franklin on Valentines Day of last year and heard about the greenies thing about the time he started teething so somewhere between April and July.......He loved them but I stopped giving them to him because he is such a massive chewer I was worried he wouldnt chew it up good. He has had a problem already with chewing Nylabones too fast and then throwing them back up so it just seemed to risky to me especially for such a small dog that needs the giant sized of everything chewy!

Nora LOVES Greenies. They are the only treats she will touch. She prefers the chicken flavor. She doesn't chew them, though, so I don't so much know how they help her teeth. lol

Oscar likes greenies, but he likes crunchy treats and food. I looked at the ingredients and weren't thrilled with them. They don't look much better than the temptations treats. I do feed them because they are just a treat, but I prefer the innova or the evo wild cravings treats.

I got a package of them for $1 at the store. Everyday when I get home from work, I give my cat a treat. Have done it since the day I brought her home. I figured the Greenies would be a good "healthy" treat. I give her 3 every day. She always eats them...until yesterday. Yesterday she only at 2 of the 3. Today she looked at the 2 I put out and walked away from them. She came back a moment later and ate them, though.

I've noticed they are REALLY hard for her to eat and she drools a lot when she chews them. I'll probably continue to give them to her until the bag is gone, but then I don't think I'll ever buy them again. They are a good idea, but they just aren't "user-friendly".

That's my 2-cents.
