I am confused about the uses of catnip. I have thought that we only put catnip in toys to make them more interesting. But some blogs seem to indicate that some owners actually give catnip as a treat - for ingestion. Is this good to do? For what other uses is catnip recommended?

my cats all eat loose catnip (both dried and fresh) after they're done rolling around in it.

never had a problem, and it helps me with cleanup

Mine enjoy cating catnip - I put some in a small bowl - does seem to ease digestion a bit. I figure it might be like peppermint tea for a human.

Glad I found this. Have a question, .. I have some dried catnip that I used very sparingly that Boo liked a lot. Kitten never noticed it, didn't care. It would have little hard pieces in it and I would remove those, because I was afraid if he ingested them it could injure him. Do I need to get a different kind of catnip? I bought a bottle of catnip spray, and Boo doesn't even notice it but the Kitten goes crazy over it.

I have read that most kittens don't respond to catnip. My (almost) 2-year-old cat just yesterday seemed to have her first reaction to it, rolling around in it and eating it. If Kitten is not a kitten, there are also some cats who just don't respond.

If you're concerned about the quality of that catnip, you can try other brands. No harm done!
There's some at Petsmart? (or maybe it was Petco) called cosmic kitty that all of mine respond to and I remember it all being fairly cut up.

And like everyone else, I put some down and let the cats do as they wish with it. They can roll or eat it, as long as they're enjoying themselves.
