Hi,
I am new here but it looks like there are lots of knowledgeable folks here so I thought I would ask a question. I just took in my first foster cat on Saturday. She is pregnant and appeared to be in good health. The rescue coordinator said she thinks she will deliver within the next 2 weeks...to me she barely looks pg but I'm sure that's just my own inexperience.

The cat was de-wormed on Saturday and also received a distemper combo vaccination. She has been doing great since Saturday...she is so friendly and very active. I've been feeding her Science Diet kitten food...she's been eating/drinking well and using the litter box just fine. This morning I found she had some diarrhea in the litter box. It was runny and there was also a small puddle on the floor just outside the box (sorry so gross). There was also what appeared to be some red stuff in it (blood? not sure). She was acting the same as always.

Any advice? Is this something I need to go to a vet for? Could it be the start of labor? Still adjusting to the food and new environment?

Thanks for any ideas! I guess I'm just new and very nervous to this whole process!

If she doesn't look too big, it could mean that she's just have a smaller litter
Can you feel the kittens moving in her belly yet? You can usually see/feel that in the last week or two.
I'm not positive what advice I should give you- the diarrhea may just be the pregnancy or the change in her diet(if she was found outside), or even the vaccines, but it's the blood that worries me. You may want to call the animal rescue that you got her from and ask their advice too

Good luck, and keep us updated on her!

I hope this runny is result of the deworming. It often is.

Her doing some outside the litter is of course connected with the diarrhea.

I agree contact with the shelther where they surely has a lot of experience - and prob a vet they cooperate with, is advisable.
Or if you have your own, friendly vet.

Tx for helping this cat in need, and good luck!

(keep us updated!)

Thanks for your input. I called the rescue org. this afternoon and she suggested that I add some canned food to the dry food I had been feeding her and then call back tomorrow afternoon if she isn't better. She said the cat may need a different type of medicine since she had already been wormed. I followed her suggestion so we'll see what happens.

Later this evening I checked on kitty again and she had gone two more times with a lot more blood...it was actually spattered all around in little droplets too. No idea how she managed that. She is still acting fine and eating/drinking normally. I was checking out her backside and things look a little odd...I'm starting to wonder if she has a hemorrhoid...is that even possible? Or perhaps she's just a little raw from the miserable diarrhea. Poor little girl.

Its really coming the time to contact a vet. The time for home remedies is running out now..
If you have possibility to contact a good one. Many vets answer telephon questions. Begin with that at least...

Good luck!

Unfortunatly, bleeding can be a big issue, so you're probably going to want her to see a vet
Does your rescue organization cover vet bills? Is she still acting normal, or does she seem sick in any ways?
Good luck for you two and the babies!

Good news! The diarrhea seems to have stopped. There has been no more blood since yesterday evening. Today she even had a normal bm. Yay! Of course, I suppose it might come back but for now I am very relieved.

Yes, this organization pays for vet bills. But I get the impression they try as much as possible to do things themselves. The president of the organization has an awful lot of experience. So, we'll see how this goes.

Thanks for all of the advice and well wishes.

Ya, that's the same with my foster organisation- the only time we brought in our mom was when she hadn't ate in days and was very late inhaving her babies. She had a respritory problem( Which killed five of her 8 kittens
) but she was fine with the antibiotics.
I hope she's alright!!

Wonderful the problem lessened and is disappearing!

I was afraid it got worse....

And in such a case, better to got help while she still was in good shape, then seek help first when her condition got really bad.
Lets keep this in mind to next time!

Good luck!
