As you know, Turtle found a wonderful home with my friend. She came from a local shelter and had a terrible case of URI which is almost totally cleared up now thanks to antibiotics. Well, six days ago she went in for a final checkup before her appt. to be spayed. While the vet's back was turned Turtle jumped off the exam table and as the tech tried to catch her she slid from her arms and hit the floor~hard. She broke her back leg!!! I am crying now just thinking about this...The vet xrayed the leg, found the break and then proceeded to splint her leg incorrectly!!! My friend, being a first time cat owner assumed it was done properly. Trusted the vet knew what she was doing, of course, then took Turtle home to nurse her back to heath...again. Well, I went to visit them two days ago and saw Turtle and knew that something was NOT RIGHT!! Her back leg was pushed up and pressed tightly against her side with the splint wrapped around her lower body!! Now I have never had a cat with a broken limb so I am not even remotely an expert on this. While I was there holding her she became restless. She had had pain meds given so I thought maybe she had to use the litter box. I placed her in the box and saw that the only way she could use it was to lay on her unaffected side and poo and pee!!! She can't stand up and squat so she lays on her side!!! This was HEARTBREAKING to watch. I told my friend to call the vet and speak with someone who knew WHAT THEY WERE DOING. He returned to the clinic and the senior vet (the owner) was shocked at what he saw!! Now because of this incompetence Turtle may lose her leg!!! She had to stay at the clinic and today we find out if her leg can be saved. My friend and I can't sleep, can't eat. What else is this precious little angel going to have to go through?? And why??? In her short life she has been tossed out on the street, then put into a cage on kitty death row where she got terribly sick and was already malnourished. Now she has to go through this? My friend is being strong and determined to stick it out with her. So am I, but I needed to talk about this and get it off my chest. I must say that on my visit with them I certainly saw the love and bond they had with each other. I am just wondering what Turtle is thinking and if she feels likes she has been abandoned again. She really needs all the vibes you can give right now. I have never posted anything this long before, but I am just overflowing with sadness right now.

Oh that is so horribly sad! I hope that her leg can be saved, poor little thing.
Is the vet offering to cover the costs at all? Sending lots of vibes!

THANK YOU Kailie! The vet hasn't made that offer. My friend didn't bring it up either. I think that whatever needs to be done should be done free of charge though. This is suppose to be a very reputable cat clinic and a mistake like this will not look good on their record so I would think that they would want to maintain their good standing in this city.

Huge vibes to Turtle. My Fudgey lost her leg due to her break not healing properely, she copes so well. This though is something that could have been avoided if correct treatment had been given. Please keep us updated.xx

Many prayers for Turtle, her owner and you - and, yes, I think the vet should be taking care of all of this - because of the incorrect care of the leg at first. That said, a lot of cats and dogs do get along beautifully on three legs, so please don't give up hope, and please keep us posted.

I agree with what has already been said about the vet office eating the cost of whatever has to be done now. God bless that little kitty. Hugs to you and your friend. Keep us posted.

Oh my goodness I am so sorry for this! I agree that the Vet should cover this cost. At my vet they have never let go of one of my cats on the table. Either myself or a tech or the vet -always- has a hand on him because he will try to Superman his way off that table! I am so sorry your sweetheart has to go through this, you are in my thoughts and prayers ...

OMG, how horrible! Yeah, not only it should be free of charge, but that vet should "see the eye of the street", as we say in Brasil... meaning... Fired!

Poor, poor girl! That's heartbreaking. I hope she can keep her leg. If she does lose it though, I had a cat growing up that my dad accidentally ran over. He had to get his back leg amputated. He lived a very happy long life after that happened. I hope it's all uphill for this poor kitty though, she's been through so much already. I'm so happy your friend cares so much about her.

For all of you!! I know how much Turtle means to you and your friend. She has been a blessing to him, and doesn't deserve this. To echo others' sentiments, I think the clinic should pay for everything regarding the broken leg. If the worst happens, let me just tell you my best friend in high school had a 3-legged cat who lived to be about 18 years old.

Turtle is home now and she gets to keep the leg!!! My friend is waiting on her hand and foot,
The "real" vet put a proper cast on it. He instructed my friend on how to check her toes for good circulation and said he would call tomorrow to checkup on her. I am so thankful that now she can begin her new life. I never want her to know what pain and loneliness is ever again. She will be spoiled and pampered just like she deserves!!!! Thanks to ALL for listening to me go on and on..

Oh, that's great news - I hope your friend will let us hear frequent updates, and best wishes for quick return to full and thoroughly spoiled health.

And, hoping vet made it clear that the care was on the house.

Yay Turtle!!
And Bellaandme, she didn't just begin her life, she began when your friend fell in love with her.
I am sure he is thrilled with the news, and have no doubt Turtle is going to be one pampered little kitty.
