I have a cat whose liver alt tested high in February. It was the same as it was four years ago when the cat had a bloodtest. He has no other symptoms of liver disease. The vet and I decided to put him on this medicine and see if it would help lower the Alt. My question is for any of you who have a cat taking this medicine. How long after the cat was first started on the medicine did you wait to retest his blood and had the number improved.
Muffin has not been on it quite a month yet.

Four years ago his Alt was 299 on Feb. 8, 2006. On Feb. 24, 2006 it was 238
This year on the 17th of Feb. it was 244. He has no other symptoms besides a slight weight loss. We are keeping an eye on that. I have two questions:

1. Does anyone else have a cat whose Alt has tested high over a period of time, but he has no other symtoms of liver ailment.

2. If you have used Denamarin, how long did your cat take the medicine before you retested his blood.

Thank you.

1. I have two with it and so far neither have other symptoms( not continual after one round of herbal supplement) and the levels stay about the same... I do not treat it ... I did treat two dogs with multiple liver aids with reasonable results but one dog was using a liver problem causing drug the other had a disease that caused liver issues

the cats are currently not being treated ... I did treat both initially with a special liver supplement for one month ... retests had the numbers staying the same and subsequent tests stayed within the same numbers ...Personally I would question the vet telling you treat when the numbers are Not climbing

1. ALT elevation alone is not a sign of liver disease. The GGT, albumin, total bilirubin, and phosphorous needs to be taken into account as well. However, if the ALT is elevated enough, then some consideration needs to be taken. It depends on the patient, and the doctor. Some doctors will say "Eh... no problem", while others will take it as a concern. Neither are wrong, just differnt practices of medicine.

2. We ususally re-test our patients in 2-4 weeks after being on A-Denosyl (Denaramin) depending on the severity of the liver disease.

Hope this helps!
