This has been a long time coming. And, between my fab new mattress set and this I'm just so excited and...happy. It feels really good
.

When I moved in, the walls in my bedroom were, well, hideous. The previous owner peeled off paneling and then replaced it with wallpaper. Then, they put new wallpaper over the old wallpaper. And, when we began removing the paper from the walls when we moved in, it became obvious what a disaster it would be. And, so, for the last 3+ years, I'm dealt with 50's era wallpaper with splotches of old, brown, caked-on glue splattered around the room. Let's just say it was not pretty. In fact, it was drab and depressing.

My "new" bedroom is just the opposite. It's bright, cheerful, and vibrantly full of life! I couldn't afford the expense of tearing down walls, but we did have a professional come in and sand down the walls. I then decided I'd like fabric dressings on my walls rather than wallpaper or paint. I found awesome light tan canvas at a fabric store and went with that for the base since it was strong and could stand up to wear and tear. I covered the entire room in that fabric except for the ceiling. Then, I found a blue flat sheet on clearance and used that to create almost a valance of sorts on the odd wall (it's vaulted). Something was still missing though. But, then as I was at Target one day I found a fabric tapestry that I put up on one portion of the ceiling and on the opposite wall. It's a light blue/teal base with a white, purple, pink, and orange design. It's really pretty. I used a small piece also to create a valance on the window and that really tied the whole room together.

After that, I reorganized the room, did a thorough cleaning, got new bedding (and a new mattress set!), and decorated some. My room is also my cats' favorite room so I have a tree in there with a lot of their supplies as well. But, given the space I have, I think it came out really well. The whole feel of the room is different. And, the sense of accomplishment I feel is out of this world. It's taken me nearly a year to get done, but I did it on my own (aside from the initial sanding of the wall) and with little money. It was an awesome experience and I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but, for now, I'm just going to enjoy it
.

Anyone else a do-it-yourself kind of person? Any cool decorating tips you'd like to share? And, please, pics! I'm so excited with my new bedroom and am loving it -- I'll try to get some pictures taken in the next couple of days to share (now that I got a new digital camera), but, for now, I just had to share!

How wonderful Alison.
Pics would be delightful --especially if you've got "before and after"s, but if not, thats awesome too.
Yes, I'm a DIY kind of person when it comes to room aesthetics. For several months I was in the Top Ten of
Yahoo Answers - Decorating and Remodeling section. I will share some tips later this evening.
