hi, sorry to start a new thread but I think people might answer better.

as you know, I have a pregnant cat. She is between 62 and 65 days pregnant as of today.

The last time I owned a pregnant cat, I was about 6 years old, and that was over 15 years ago. So I am extremely excited, anxious, worried and mothering.

My first concern is, her nipples aren't producing milk. Or at least not all of them. All 8 of her nipples are a little stiff and enlarged, 4 of them are a little swollen/puffy and only 2 of those 4 are obviously filled with milk (they leak a little bit) is this normal?

She sleeps probably 20 hours a day now and does not eliminate as much. She eats a little less than usual. The past few weeks she has been ravenous as far as hunger but perhaps the past 3 days she only eats once or twice a day. Is this normal?? I feed her friskies indoor for adults mixed with meow mix indoor kitten kibble and purina one kitten kibble. I also mix in canned kitten food once a day. She is drinking plenty of water.

Today she has only eaten once, and she didn't eat very much.

She doesn't meow anymore.
She is an excessively vocal cat, but she rarely meows now. She also never leaves my side. Right now she is sleeping on my desk.

Also, she gets the hiccups frequently now. Since yesterday she has had at least 5 'episodes' of hiccups that only last a few minutes. She's never had the hiccups before.

Her belly is hard now. The kittens are almost constantly moving inside her. which is a great feeling, especially when she is laying on my stomach and I can feel them moving against me!!

There's no mucus or blood and her eyes are alert. She is always purring.

She doesn't show much nesting behavior. And I know she's uncomfortable
she's always shifting and rolling and moving.

sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure she's ok!!

oh one more question, I think she has ear mites. I'm not going to medicate her while pregnant but will it be safe after she births?

Most of what you have described sounds like she is almost ready. Sometimes, the milk doesn't come till she gives birth, sometimes it comes in days before.

About the earmites, I have no idea. None of my cats have ever had them so I am clueless there. I would put a call in to a vet and ask what and when it is safe to treat her. You don't want new babies to get them.

Good luck with the birth. I am awaiting my kittens too. They are due today, but it looks like it's gonna be when the lights go out LOL Who knows, but at least I know when she was bred, and I'm very excited for them to arrive.

Some cats produce milk days after they have kittens - it just depends on the individual cat. I have some friends who have queens that they know will not produce milk until the kittens are 4 days old.

Some cats also stop eating just before they are due and if she has hardend up, then that is a very good sign she is near.

You will have to talk to your vet re: the ear mites, as you shouldn't accept serious medical advice here at the forum

I would take care of the earmites soon because you don't want the kittens to get them. Revolution is safe for pregnant and nursing cats and will get rid of earmites as well as worms and fleas. You'll have to get it from a vet's office and it is on the expensive side, but it will be better than trying to treat mom and the whole litter later.

thanks for the advice.

I have set up several kittening boxes throughout the house, and my OTHER cats are sleeping in them!!! my Meatloaf doesn't care for them at all.

she is starting to show 'nesting' behaviors.... she's hanging out in my bedroom closet for the past hour or so.

That's a definite sign. Love the other cats sleeping in them.

So typical

Sounds like it could be any time now! Good luck for everything. Re the earmites, as it may be impossible to get her to a vet before she gives birth and you do not want the kittens getting them, you can just keep her ears clean with a ball of cottonwool dipped in warm water. This will not clear them up for good, but will lessen the chance of them being passed to the kittens. Do not use cotton buds on sticks - it is easy to rupture the eardrum. Just do as far as you can with ordinary cotton. But talk to a vet as soon as possible.

well today she has been lazy. she's been asleep most of today and has not eaten once today, nor has she used the catbox. she has been drinking water throughout the day.

she did drink some chicken broth out of my bowl of chicken soup.

she attacked one of our other cats, Momcat. But Momcat jumped on Meatloaf first. Usually Meatloaf will run into my bedroom and hide, but this time she turned around and swatted her on the ass! she had a look of death in her face too, Lol

She's been a little snappy to the father of her kittens (whom I got fixed earlier this week) but I guess that is to be expected. He IS the cause of this after all!!!

Well, it sounds like you're pretty prepared! Getting protective is a natural sign, she just wants her babies to be safe
I would still keep the father away from her if he has just been neutered because he can still get her pregnant a few months after being neutered. Also, since she's getting very close to delivery and is getting protective, you may want to think about giving her an enclosed room away from your other cats so she can have a bit of privacy

Good luck!

"Pay kitten support, you deadbeat!"

If you're worried about her making enough milk, it couldn't hurt to have a can of KMR or similar on hand just in case she has any problems nursing. With any luck you won't need it for the kittens and you can either take it back to the store unopened or give it to her for extra nutrition to make the real milk out of.

WHEN IS SHE GOING TO DROP HER LOAD OF LOAVES!!!!!!

They're going to burn!!!! Lol!!!

I count the days like every day. I had estimated she was due Sunday but no load dropping that day. So I counted again, at the absolute earliest time of pregnation, she would be 11 weeks pregnant. I doubt that is true. LOL

At the absolute latest time of impregnation, that would make her 63 days pregnant today.

So I guess it happened on that last day. GRR!

I wish I could remember the day I noticed her little tits were swollen. I texted my mom that day and my mom said some un-nice words hahaha.

She was nesting in my closet last night for about an hour, and I was thinking FINALLY!!!!

But then she was like nope, false labor and got into bed with me instead.

Her belly is sooo hard! and the kittens keep her awake all day and night now. If they could meow they would be meowing. I can actually see them moving in her now which is the freakiest coolest thing ever lol. I still only feel 2 separate heads though but I think there is a third. One of the kittens is huge. He might as well be a full grown cat. Usually kittens are so tiny like little mice or rats but he's got a big head and he moves around constantly. I wonder if she will have problems?

I've found a home for at least one kitten (my brother) so I know that kitten will be taken care of!

I'm so tired of waiting! lol!

I don't know anything about pregnancy, but my cat had a terrible case of ear mites, and I found a safe home remedy that actually worked better than those nasty over-the-counter chemical drops. Mineral oil. Gently drop a milliliter or so in each ear (it helps if you have a dropper), then, while holding a cotton ball to the front of the ear, massage the base of the ear in an upward motion until you hear squelching sounds. Keep doing this, always in an upward motion, and when you take the cotton ball away, there should be lots of dark brown ear mite debris on it. Repeat every day in each ear. The mineral oil will leave the fur very slick and oily and nasty, but it doesn't hurt her in the long run, and I've read that the oil actually suffocates the nasty little ear mite buggers. I wouldn't suggest this as a long-term treatment at all, but it may help make her scratch less and lesson the chances of babies getting infected until you can get her veterinary help. She will need a bath soon, though, because you probably won't be able to stand her with waxy fur all around her ears for too long!

Good luck!

Ugh, I know the feeling...I once had a foster mom that we thought was gonna explode any day but it took her 3 weeks!! Since she seems to be having a smaller litter, it could take a couple days longer than usual, but not too much more. It'll happen soon...my fingers are crossed for you!

To abort the kittens was a personal decision. I don't think anyone should judge you for what you did, so if someone is telling you that it was irresponsable and that you should have done something that you thought was wrong, then ignore it

As long as you prevent them from turning into exponential cats, no one should judge you for doing what you think is right for your pet.
