ughh antibiotics :(

As you can see from my earlier thread here my dermatologist put me on doxycycline for acne and yaz..
Yesterday was day 2 since I was taking doxycycline, and immediately after I took it in the morning I started throwing and kept throwing up at about 10 minute intervals for an hour and a half
So the doctor changed the medicine to bactrim ( sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and today was the first day I'm taking that- and I've been feeling some nausea ever since I took it in the evening I don't know what's up with me and antibiotics!! I can't seem to tolerate them well at all..
Or I'm wondering if it isn't yaz that is causing it all...I'm also scared that there is something wrong with my liver now because most of these antibiotics aren't exactly gentle on the liver...I am checking myself for jaundice all the time, which is silly...

Oh geez, I'm sorry you're having so much nausea. My DH has some problems with antibiotics, too. If you're worried about your liver, can you say something to your doctor at your next visit?

I think the liver issues scare was just my anxiety acting up, lol..
I just read it's normal to have nausea when taking most antibiotics..
I guess I could ask to get shots instead I'm not sure which is worse, nausea or needles..

Ugh.. Antibiotics make me throw up too, but there is something you can do about it..

In high school I was on antibiotics a few times cuz I had strep throat.. Everytime I'd take the antibiotic before school, I'd throw up. After calling the doc, I figured out why. I wasnt taking it with food. Try eating something everytime you take the antibiotic. Once I started eating before takiing it, I stopped throwing up. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I am eating before taking it now- but the doxycycline said on the instructions that you had to take it on an empty stomach.
Thankfully I can eat when I take bactrim, it helps a lot. I had a big breakfast this morning and took it- and I have been feeling better..

My doctor always tells me to eat Activia yogurt when I have to take antibiotics. That keeps your digestive system on track.

I am taking Doxycycline now, also. It also made me sick to my stomach and was also advised to take on an empty stomach, with a full glass of water. I think the full glass is so that you have something to hurl...not just the pill.
I have started eating some yogurt right before I take it and it has helped that so much. I have found one other problem with the doxycycline, and it ain't fun either!

Antibiotics make me throw up as well. I hate taking them. Buy some acidophalus (spelling?) pills. They are filled with probiotics. You want ones that contain live and active cultures, like yogurt. I would take one of those a day, with a meal and full glass of water to get the best effectiveness. I also eat yogurt. Take a multi-vitamin as well, if you tolerate those. You lose some b vitamins when you take antibiotics.
