Advice

Hey there. My cat has thrown up 3 times after eating over the past 2 days. He just yacked up some blue buffalo canned food. He will be 8 in October. He's indoor only, neutered and has a very healthy appetite. He eats far too fast most of the time. some of the dried barf I found in his cat bed had undigested bits of food and lots of hair. He is a short-haired domestic cat, orange. And have I mentioned very greedy.

I'm calling the vet tonight and will leave a message for an appointment or advice.

Pumpkin is otherwise playful and as silly as he always is. Could this be hairballs or is it possibly something more serious. I have not given him his hairball stuff in weeks.

Thanks in advance.

HI, I definetely think the vet will offer the best advice. I have a similar problem with my cat Billy, he has a really sensitive stomach and if I can't get hold of his normal food he is sick, also when he eats too fast he is sick and the same as you its undigested and just looks like wet cat food. It took me a very long time to find a food that is suitable for him and I do have problems getting hold of it. It is possible that your cat may have also a sensitive stomach. Definetely talk to your vet. x

I also have a kitty with a sensitive stomach and he will sometimes vomit up his food if he eats it too quickly. Always better to check with the vet though, just in case it is something more serious. Good luck!

I just went through this yesterday! I took my kitty to the vet because he had regurgitated his food a few times and they did an x-ray on him. He was full of poop and had to have an enema! I would suggest a vet visit. It may just be him eating too fast but you can never be too careful. Or maybe I'm just that paranoid!

Hopefully you have gotten into the vet and have a update...

Definitely get him to a vet!

As far as eating too fast, have you tried one of those treat balls? You can put his hard kibbles in it, and the food will come out as he plays with it. This will slow him down and get him some playful exercise in at the same time. Also they make special food dishes with a hump in the middle to slow down fast eater, or you could put something like a ping-pong ball in his kibble to achieve the same effect.

Lots of grooming with help with hairballs and all that loose hair from being ingested too.

Hey guys thanks so much. I went to the vet after speaking to the assistant on the phone. The vet told her to tell me how to use Laxatone. They said usually if there is something serious going on, the cat won't be playing or trying to eat. Pumpkin is playful and still wants to eat. All the time. *laugh*

So I've given him 2 doses of the laxatone by putting it on his paw. No vomiting since. Im keeping an eye on him carefully though. And I will look into a special food dish.

This is the time of the year for hairballs to start, so it maybe nothing more than that. I would just put his dish on something to lift it a few inches to stop him eating too fast. I have one who is sick if she eats too fast, and she always tries to.

But a vet visit is a good idea.

Sounds like hairballs... yummy...

A little canned pumpkin (not the pie filling, actual pumpkin) is a good laxative for future hairball issues, or trying a food with more fiber.

Good luck!

Okie
