Help with Hissing, distress

Hello everyone,

I have a female cat that is 8 years old and is hissing all the time now. She has hissed before but only on two occasions now it is every day.

I moved into a new ground floor apartment and from the breakfast nook to the living room I have floor to ceiling windows (ten in all each is 35 inches wide set two at a time across the whole apartment) that look directly out to the grass. My cat has perfect view of everything and other cats in the neighborhood walk right up to the window and sit there saying hello (they never hiss) and my cat goes nuts. She has never liked other cats and has always been very upset to see or confront one. The sounds she makes drives me crazy, screams and attacks the windows. she will do this for several minutes if I let her.

There is nothing I can do about the other cats coming around. There is noting I can do with the windows unless I want to block out all light. All I have and can do is remove her from the situation and put her in the bedroom for a bit.

Things have gotten worse over the past few weeks to where she will hiss if I pet her (only in a few situations I can't say what it is that makes her do that), pick her up or startle her.

I really want her to live a stress free life. I can't stand watching her scream and throw herself into the windows over and over.

My Plan:

Find out if I can put anything on the grass that will safely repel the other cats.

Something I can spray on the inside so she can see them but not smell them. Just smelling will set her off.

When she does this I slap my hands and in a very loud voice tell her to go to the bedroom. I walk behind her and push her in. She goes to one spot she likes and stays there till she calms down. I don't want to be loud anymore and cause more stress what can I do to stop her brain and let it reset so I can move her out of the situation.

That's it for now. Please ask any questions you want and offer any help you can.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

You could try putting something in each window that would only block the bottom 2 feet of it. I think being completely level with that sort of view and seeing strange cats could potentially set off a lot of cats.

Do you have any feliway diffusers? If not, try adding some of those. Moving alone can be stressful for a cat, add with just how different this apartment is and you need something to help calm her.
You can try adding Rescue Remedy to her water - I've never had much luck with it, but it works for others on here.

If other small fixes do not work, you may just have to talk to a vet. While they're not to be taken lightly, there are medications (same ones used in humans for the most part) to help mood and with anxiety.
