Got the results back from the blood test....and I'm DEFINITELY pregnant!! It was the not knowing that was driving me crazy!! And, the fact that we spent 7 yrs thinking this wasn't going to happen.

I'm happy (terrified, but happy). And Jill, we would never give this baby up for anything. It's just a huge mindset change in 3 days.

What sucks is my PCP office told me today that my gyno doesn't deliver anymore and when I call to get suggestions it said they were currently closed (hopefully only for lunch...but who knows. My last gyno just skipped town and took all records with her). I just want to get in to see a doctor and find out what I have to do and what I can't do. I mean, I know the basics (caffeine, alcohol and cigerette are no-no's), but what would be best for me to eat, because for the last few weeks I haven't really been picky and have been eating anything and everything!

DH's said he started wondering when I started craving orange juice. I normally HATE orange juice unless I'm sick, or it has vodka in it. But, I started drinking it like crazy. I guess I should just listen to what my body says? I really have to start doing research but any advice, suggestions, especially for a old mom? (omg, that still freaks me out!)

Wow, congratulations!

For now, eat as healthy as you can! If you get morning sickness, you will just be trying to eat anything you can.

Most important is to rest, stay well hydrated, and start taking prenatals immediately!

There are a lot of other "pointers", but those are the most important. Things like avoid anything that can make you sick- raw / undercooked meats, unprocessed cheeses, lunch meats.

I'm on a great pregnancy website, if you're interested, PM me and I'll give you the address!

Congratulations again, so exciting!!

Wow, congratulations hun, being pregnant is absolutely amazing, I have 3 children and I love the whole pregnancy/birth thing. The main things like you to said to avoid are caffeine, alcohol and also soft cheeses and blue veined cheeses, liver. I'm sure your midwife will explain all this to you. I used to look on pregnancy websites all the time and especially at the week by week baby growth guide. Gosh I am so jealous and soooo incredibly happy for you
Enjoy a fab pregnancy and please keep me updated.xx

Congrats! Hope your pregnancy is an easy one! Do you know your due date?

Go buy What to Expect When you're Expecting.

Some food to avoid:

Deli meat, unless you microwave it for about 15 seconds first, it could contain listera(sp?)

All meat should be cooked well.

My doc said one sea food dish a week.

Make sure eggs, milk, cheese that sort of stuff is pastuerized.

One caffeinenated beverage a day, although some web sites say you should avoid it all together.

I'm sure there is more, I'll find a website for you.

My favorite thing I've read is to accomadate your cravings and aversions. (Unless, you're craving something weird, like wood, in which case call the doc)

Don't be afraid to call your doc if you have severe morning sickness, like I had. I couldn't even keep water down, and I got pretty ill. I got a prescription that helped a lot!

What constitutes severe morning sickness:

1. The vomiting is not getting better

2. You're urinating less, and your urine appears darker in color

3. Your mouth, eyes, and skin are feeling dry

4. You are feeling increasingly tired

5. Your mental acuity is lessening

6. You are feeling increasingly weak and faint

7. You haven't been able to eat or drink or keep anything down for 24 hours.

8. You vomit more then three times per day.

http://www.babycenter.com/?intcmp=Na...regnancy%20Hub

You'll find lots of good stuff on that website and what to expect when you're expecting.com\\

Wow, this is super long. Hope I'm not annoying, I get a little over-zealous when I'm trying to help.

What do you mean by "soft cheese and blue veined cheese"? I'm guessing blue cheese is out, but by soft cheese do you mean the "processed cheese food" like velveta and the cheap cheese? Because I can't stand them anyway.

As for the morning sickness, I haven't had any yet...knock on wood. I heard it should start in the first trimester, but that isn't written in stone. I do know that I have to pee almost every hour but that could just be because I'm drinking so much water and juice. It feels like I'm always thirsty.

Yep, I need a good forum for pregnancy!

Pregnancy is no illness.Just go on living normally and respect the no nos.During the first 3 months hard body labour is not advisable,Don´t lift anything heavy.Eat normal healthy food fruits vegetables etc.Don´t eat for 2 that´s pure nonsense and will stick to your body afterwards. There is no need to worry about whatever .It´s a completely normal process. If you get morning sickness okay you ´ll get over it.It stops anyway after 3 months. All in all I can only say enjoy the time even when you don´t do anything you go on being productive.Do things that please you listen to lovely music and just be happy.
All the best

Blue cheese is out. Even the dressing. Soft cheeses are cheese like Brie. But if they're pastuerized then you can eat them.

Congrats!!!

Just an FYI. While I've never been pregnant, I've looked after lots of pregnant women and have sat in on many dietician consults with pregnant women.

So long as the cheese is pasturized, it's fine to eat blue cheese or goats milk cheese. It's unpasturized products that you want to avoid. Pasturized products are fine.

Yep, soft cheese like dairylea, philadelphia e.t.c you might be one of the lucky ones who doesn't get morning sickness. The best thing is don't listen to old wives tales and "when I was pregnant....this happened" Every pregnancy is different and its so easy to fall into that trap and compare with people. You will be fine hun, enjoy your 9 months, I wish now that I had appreciated my pregnancies a bit more as they are over so quick and kids grow up so fast. Omg I am really getting broody now

I am really happy for you guys and I don't want you to think that I was telling you that to make you feel like you should give the baby up. I just wanted to add that there were other options if you guys didn't want a baby, or couldn't take care of the baby. I don't think I could give a baby up if I was to get pregnant now either but I do know how hard it would actually be on us at this point as well, so I know exactly where you are coming from with the first anxieties. Take care of yourself and the baby and I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and a beautiful cat loving baby.

Congrats! Got a due date? My DIL is expecting triplets and her date is Oct. 27 for a normal pregnancy, but we know they will be at least 4 weeks early.

I just asked for an update on your other thread, not realizing you started this one!

This baby will keep you young! I'm so happy for you!!!

Congratulations! What a shock this must be to you!
I'm happy for you.

When I was pregnant with my son, my FAVORITE book was Your Pregnancy Week by Week. My friend loves that book also. It tells you what's happening with your baby each week, how big he/she is, etc. Great book. Also, get The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. OMG, HISTERICAL!! You'll laugh your butt off, and it's some of the best and most REAL advice you'll get.

Like someone already said, pregnancy isn't an illness. Just keep living your life like you always do, just cut out the obvious things as you already said. Even coffee won't kill you or the baby if you want/need it. When I was pregnant with my son I only ate 1-2 packages of pork flavored ramen noodles per day for the first 14 weeks b/c that was the only thing I could keep down...but you know what? I had a perfectly normal pregnancy and a perfectly normal and healthy baby.

I don't know if we're allowed to do this, but if you want great mothering/pregnancy forums, go to either www.mothering.com/discussions or www.justmommies.com/forums.

Good luck, and I hope you have a happy and healthy nine months!
((hug))

Congratulations! Be prepared, because you're most likely going to feel very tired very soon! Your body is going through a LOT of change, and it really does wear you out, so rest when you need to.

Definitely start taking prenatal vitamins if you're not already, otherwise just drink lots of water, and try to consume a bit more calcium each day. As has been said, when they say "soft cheeses" it's more like brie, camembert and things like that, but even then they are almost always made with pasteurised milk anyway, so they are fine - just check the label.

I generally stay away from deli meats (unless they've been kept in my fridge) - we go to a sandwich shop pretty regularly on weekends for lunch, and I make sure I have the tuna melt, or a grilled sandwich now, and tell them I want it HOT.

Good luck with it all, I hope everything goes smoothly

My mom drank crazy amounts of grapefruit juice when she was pregnant with me (to where, when she ran it past the doctor, he said "that much is fine but NO MORE")...the long-term result being that I actually like the stuff (other than my mom, I'm the only one I know). I'll even eat fresh grapefruit without sugar. I tell people that I got addicted in utero.
