Some of you may know that I have been involved in fighting to improve the situation at a high-kill county animal control. Well, last night, it looks like we won a major victory.

Here is the story:

Oh what wonderful news for the animals, yay!

Our county SPCA is a high kill shelter. However their director stepped down and they are in the midst of reviewing their procedures.

It was so bad, another county had to come in to do rescues etc.

I hope someday I will see something similar in our paper regarding this place.

Good luck to you and thank God the animals have people like you.

Keep in mind that a animal shelters success rates depends on the mind-set of the community they serve. Public education is the best key to solving the over-population problem of companion pets.

People who work in or run shelters are often held personally accountable in ways that other social servants are not. In my experience most animal care workers are very dedicated to the cause.

As well as having reasonable shelter policies you need to start educating the community to support the idea of spaying and neutering their own pets. Educate them on micro-chipping so you have a higher return of lost pets.

Each and every shelter needs the cooperation of the community it serves in order to perform better.

Oh there is NO doubt about that... it is part of the master plan. This county is still heavily rural with a old timers mindset.. but it is changing and has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years.
