Hello everybody,

I really could do with your help or advice regarding the following problem with our 14 month old Female cat.

Approx 4 days ago we noticed she was very quiet and when she eats she licks her mouth and gipps as if something is stuck in her throat.
(she still has a healthy appetite).

She has just got back from the vets after a full day of tests which included: x-rays / sedation and mouth & throat examination / blood tests ect.

The vet can't find anything wrong with her throat and didn't see anything on the x-rays.

The only small problems they found were tiny increase in white blood cells and very slight swelling of the glands under her chin.

He gave her an anti-inflammatory shot and we have to give her worming tablets in a couple of days.

Regardless of what the vet said I'm not convinced it may get better over time.

He said we have to monitor her over the next couple of days and if we're still concerned we should bring her back to the vets where he will refer her to a local specialist.

if anyone could throw any light on the subject I'd be extremely grateful.

I would think the swollen glands would make it tough to swallow. Sounds like she will be ok. Don't worrying until you have something to worry about. You sound like a veterenarians dream.
Is this your first kitty?

Well, IMO you can do one of two things:

1. Do as your vet suggested and watch her for the next couple of days. Make sure she is eating, drinking, and pooping/peeing OK. Make sure there are no big changes in her behavior. After those couple of days, like your vet said, if you are concerned give your vet a call.

2. Get a second opinion, if there is another vet in your area that you trust.

Honestly, it sounds like the swollen glands are most likely what is bothering her. Since you had so many tests done and nothing major was found, and since her appetite is still good, I don't think you have cause to worry.

I hope she feels better soon!

Doesn't an increase in white blood cells mean an infection? I thought so. I wonder why you didn't get some antibiotics? Maybe someone else can explain.

The glands that you mentioned sound like the lymph nodes, seeing as the WBC count is high.

Has she been tested for feline leukemia/FIV? That's a big suggestion from me.

One thing to keep an eye on would be her gums. Check them frequently for signs of swelling or gingivitis and ulcers; this is to be aware of stomatitis, or inflammation of the mouth. Unfortunately, if it is stomatitis, the only treatment is to extract all her teeth; usually can leave the canines, though. So, keep a close eye on it!

Good luck!

Hello,

Thanks for the reply's to my question,
My family have always had cat's and i've seen most cat illness but this is very strange.
The reason I'm still worried about her is because she looks different, slower ect.
The glands being swollen wouldn't worry me as it's pretty common.
The more I watch her the more I think she may of been hit or fell out a tree?
Vet's are not much use when they give you a "she should be fine" prognosis when it's clear to me she's not.
What are your thoughts on my "been hit" theory?
